ATTENTION: PSA Authenticator Rejects Postcard-Backed Exhibits
Apparently, the PSA authenticator is ill-informed and rejects all Exhibit Sportscards with postcard backs sold on eBay with a sale price in excess of $250. This contradicts all literature available which refers to them Exhibit Sportscards. But the authenticator apparently thinks they should be labelled as postcards. This is ironic and also contradictory since the PSA website nomenclature to grade those cards logs them in as Exhibit Sportscards and guarantees them accordingly.
They are now returning all these eBay-sold Exhibit Sportscards to the seller. The Exhibit cards with such backing includes some 1928 Exhibits, some 1961 Wrigley Exhibits, most 1926-29 (1925-31) Exhibits, all 1929-30 Exhibits and all 1955 Exhibits. So, PSA better get an educated authenticator or repurchase all these cards under their guarantee! |
I don't know the full story or if you have good communication with the seller, but if they are still willing to sell the cards to you at the same price, they can relist them under the category of "sports memorabilia" to circumvent the authentication process.
This was a valid method as of last October, so I'm not 100% sure it would work today but it's worth a shot if the seller is willing to try it. |
It’s not just these issues. Most every issue that is oversized or doesn’t look like a classic postwar card gets rejected as not a sports card and therefore ineligible for the program.
It’s obviously ludicrous that they take this approach, but there doesn’t seem to be much that we can do but live with it. |
Or send them to SGC first and bypass the raw card authenticator shallow gene pool.

How recent is this supposed to be? I sold 2 that went through just fine roughly 3 weeks back (and no troubles like this before that).

PSA maybe getting lazy with regards to exhibits. I went a 1922 exhibit of Stan Coveleski in to get a cross over. It was authentica altered per SGC, so I expected it would get the same grade from PSA.
Fast forward 4 MONTHS LATER I got an N9, do not grade and sent back to me. Effectively paying $45 for the card to fly from coast to coast. I put in the instructions I just want it slabbed and understood it was authentic altered. I opened up with a case with their CRC, and 2 weeks later I have heard nothing. I would be interested to know if anyone has had any exhibits issues with PSA, besides the ebay authentication |

Even when previously graded by any of the major graders, including PSA and SGC. |
