Umpires Managers Announcers Trainers - Let's See Them
4 Attachment(s)
Very often we overlook a lot of the people that "Make the World Go Around" when it comes to baseball; umpires, managers, trainers, coaches, announcers, etc.
This thread is for the support personnel, past and present, who keep the game going. Show some of your great autographs of these people! I know there are a lot out there. I will start with a couple. The great Cal Hubbard on a Type 1 photograph from his Hall of Fame induction ceremony on August 9, 1976. Cal is the only person that has been inducted into both the Baseball and Football Hall of Fame. He died a short time later on October 17, 1977. A 1946 New York Central train menu autographed by 26 members of the Cleveland Indians, both players and a couple of significant others. A notable sportswriter for the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Alex Zurin and a pretty tough autograph of long-time trainer, Max "Lefty" Weissman. Weissman was one of the first non-players to have a ball game day named in his honor in 1946. Check out those food prices in the menu - if only they were like that today. Let's some support staff autographs! |

Oh, it doesn't have to be just baseball - all sports please.

That’s some great stuff!
Very unique. I felt the same way, about managers being overlooked in favor of stars, hall of farmers, batting champions, etc. So I started focusing on collecting just the autographs of managers, and to this day have approx. 550…from current back to the 1890s. Just this week I added new hires Don Kelly and Warren Schaefer. I am missing about 40 names, those being from the period between 1900 and 1920. They are very scarce and either unavailable or pretty much unaffordable, but every once in a while I get lucky and am able to obtain one of the names on my Want List. |

'Gone Fishin's idea about posting my Want List
It was a good thought to post my 'Want List' of MLB Managers autographs, but it's about 40 names, maybe too long to post here.
I have, over time, sent a PM to a number of forum members to get their email address and sent the list that way. I have been able to acquire some of the autographs on my list by doing that. My email address is: richieharris.email@gmail.com If anyone has Managers autographs on flat items (no balls, caps, bats) from the period 1890 to the late 1920s that may be up for sale, I'd like to send my 'Want List' to your email. I do realize that due to scarcity, some of the names are either unavailable or unaffordable. Thanks! |

A couple from Eddie Gaedel home plate umpire Eddie Hurley. The card is no longer with me, but ranked as one of the greatest umpire-signed items I've had the pleasure to own. It resided in Jack Smalling's personal collection for over 50 years before it came to me. I still have the 3X5, and am only its second owner.

In the mid 1990's I befriended one time Orioles coach Jimmy (not to be confused with Jimy) Williams.
He coached for them from 1981 thru 1987, and when Earl Weaver retired for the second time after the '86 season he gave Jimmy his metal box of hand written scouting reports (on 4x6 index cards) of every opposing player for future reference. Jimmy was kind enough to gift it to me and I later had Earl sign it: https://i.imgur.com/r5VA99q.jpeghttps://i.imgur.com/7uEpJA0.jpeghttps://i.imgur.com/1UEYKBj.jpeg |
