How many Net54 Members are also active on FB Vintage Pages - a poll

I know that quite a few of us here are "dual citizens" of both Net54 and on many Facebook Vintage card pages... I'm interested in a small poll to see what % of us are active in both areas.

I'm active and enjoy both and am curious about others - and of course, feel free to weigh in with your comments as well to add a little color commentary to the poll.

Thanks - happy weekend, all.

Jeff

[emoji137] I'm a member of several vintage, some modern, and quite a few non-sports pages on FB. I'm also an admin for a couple, too. I certainly enjoy both platforms.

I guess I'm an old geezer at 56 as I do not have a Facebook account. Or any other social media accounts for that matter.

Welcome to the club! The anti-social media Luddite crowd. We're almost as cool as the anti-grading crowd, except that we don't post about it quite as often.

Jeez... is old geezer now at 56?? I'll just stand down now (as I just celebrated the 3rd anniversary of my 56th birthday)

I’m 65, you’re not alone :D

Natswin2019 05-02-2025 02:44 PM

I browse both the facebook groups, here, the reddit groups and my card instagram for vintage card content but im in my late 20s and ive always used all of them anyway regardless.

rjackson44 05-02-2025 03:27 PM

Love the page more members please. Post your cards we got this

LEHR 05-02-2025 03:33 PM

Card groups are the only reason I'm still on Facebook. I've also made contacts and bought and sold several times through Instagram and TikTok as well.

Same here, I'm only on FB for Fly Fishing and Vintage card groups

JollyElm 05-02-2025 03:49 PM

Not to be 'that guy,' but the "NO" choice is oddly quite limiting.
I've never visited a baseball card FB page, but it's not because it is "not for me, I'm good here at Net54 and here alone!"

It's simply because I've just never ventured down that road (yet?). Nothing more to it.

pawpawdiv9 05-02-2025 04:11 PM

Never done a card group on Facebook
But on n54 and blowout and psa-collector universe
Mostly just n54 tho

Facebook anything = A bridge too far for me.

Balticfox 05-02-2025 04:51 PM

I'm opposed to Facebook as a matter of general principle.

;)

I joined Facebook in college when it was thefacebook.com over 20 years ago. I closed my account right afterwards and never signed up again.

“You need Facebook so you can keep up with your friends and family!”

I can be reached by phone, text, email, snail mail, and in person. Besides, my wife is on there enough for the both of us.

Andrew1975 05-02-2025 05:52 PM

I was skeptical, but have found that Facebook groups are a great way to buy and sell cards. As long as you are in an established/reputable group, deal with known members, and use a little common sense (don't send via Venmo or PayPal FF unless it is to someone you know, ask for "vouches" if the deal is with someone you don't know etc.), you will likely not have any problems.

I don't partipate in social media by choice. Finding and spending money on cards for my PC doesn't seem to be a problem, the exact opposite in fact, which can be a problem.

Lucas00 05-02-2025 09:55 PM

I am on Facebook strictly for vintage card groups.

I like your thinking and just might give that a try. :)

More than half so far are “no” to using FB… interesting but not too surprising. Anyone here know how many Net54 active members there are?

If anyone who is “Facebook Vintage Curious” reach out to me and I can suggest the best pages (in my experience/opinion) and how to easily avoid the scammers and knuckleheads.

Most active members on the best FB vintage pages are pretty awesome people and collectors. Have developed lots of new hobby friends and collections there.

Believe me - it’s nothing like the social media your kids are using… selling, buying, discussions, etc.

Nice to have some focused pages too - pre-war, unopened, Red Sox focused, etc. Overall, I think it’s a great community over there too (again, with selected pages).

The best pages have their own “Leon” who keeps a watchful eye on the page and they do a really great job.

Thx all, who responded.

I appreciate folks who are predominently here. FB is ok but I don't follow rules very well, so, this place with less rules seems like a better place for me.

I had a PM from a very good, newer, member yesterday. He couldn't believe someone could say what they did and not get banned. I told him that folks here can say what they want to, for the most part, and not have to worry about it. If someone is an ass, and you have your name next to your posts, you can call them for what they are :).

There are right at 15000 registered members. We get about 50-100 new users a month.
I am not sure how many post very often.
For the record, I look at FB mostly for dog rescue stuff and am in a few groups that I rarely post in.

oldjudge 05-03-2025 09:48 AM

Don't do social media

Smanzari 05-03-2025 11:18 AM

No "standard" social sites for me - just forums and Reddit. Seem to share/post the most here though but do post on the Vintage Card subreddits from time-to-time

Section103 05-03-2025 11:33 AM

I was on FB for a long time and eventually was on it solely for the bourbon and mountaineering groups. Then that became "just not worth it."

F- FB. Its a toxic place.

notfast 05-03-2025 12:06 PM

I cant believe how many people are missing out on cards/info because they are anti social media.

BobbyStrawberry 05-03-2025 12:40 PM

You couldn't pay me enough to subject myself to the toxic hellscape that is Facebook. If I miss out on some deals, so be it!

bmattioli 05-03-2025 03:38 PM

FB Groups and the Marketplace have been good to me. Nothing ventured nothing gained..

Finding cards to buy has never been an issue, finding the budget to add those cards is the greater challenge.
-

refz 05-04-2025 02:01 PM

I’m on them, but the people, cards, information, history are sooo much better here on Net54 Baseball. I get so sick of seeing the same 1/2 - dozen sellers selling the same crap in every group. Sickening really.

I remember when Zuck was championing FB groups years ago as the next best thing on FB. He was right. FB groups is the only reason I still use FB. I'm plugged into many groups where I get a ton of great info and connect with likeminded folks from around the globe who are into the same things...

Here's a sample of the groups I'm in:

Cracker Jack Cards Marketplace (sign up in my signature)
Sports Card Nonsense
Tobacco Row
OBEY Giant - Shepard Fairey
Rivian Electric Cars Discussion
Moda Collective
Real Watch Buyers
The 406 Club
Patek Owners Club
Portugal Expats Hub
Vingtage Sports Club
Harmon's Old Time Baseball Cards

SmokyBurgess 05-09-2025 05:38 AM

Facebook

I do use Facebook groups to trade. Easier to post photos.

steve B 05-09-2025 08:38 AM

I went with no, even though it didn't quite match for me.
Currently I'm not on any FB card groups. But I wouldn't rule it out.

NYYFan63 05-09-2025 10:10 AM

I peruse the FB Vintage groups

If anyone would like suggestions on which FB pages we like and use the most, please reach out - I know that “social media” causes some allergic reactions but honestly, there really are some good communities out there in Facebook land, just like here.

If you try to consistently get members here, to go over to FB, maybe you should market that somewhere else? Just sayin'....

parkerj33 05-09-2025 11:37 AM

I am 57, and very active on fb....on three very popular t206 groups and know several other people from here much more active on there, than here. But i enjoy both places equally!

Oh sorry, Leon.. that surely wasn’t my intent. Just trying to be helpful to members. Damn, sorry. Seriously.

I don't think Leon has anything to worry about. Don't see FB groups cannibalizing any NET54 traffic. If anything they are both good compliments.

I strongly disagree. The three main reasons why most discussion forums have died slow lingering deaths in the last dozen years are Facebook, Facebook and Facebook.

:(

ajjohnsonsoxfan 05-17-2025 12:26 AM

Guess Leon could tell us if that's true. Net54 seems to be as popular as ever

That is probably the case for almost all forums. This one is 24 yrs old and counting. According to this poll over 50% of our members only use Net54baseball. Seems like we have the appetite to keep it going. The information on this forum is astounding, and unmatched, and the members are the best in the hobby (I am biased).

We have between 50-100 new registrants every month and have forever. I am still having fun and it seems like a lot of others are too. So, we'll see. Onward...

Good to know it's not dying a slow lingering death. lol
