Trimmed = Hand Cut = a numbered opinion

According to everybody's favorite opinion seller it does.

I am pretty sure the label states that this grading company believes it did a Very Good job when grading the Williams.

At least it isn't an item that was never hand cut. There are so many cards not hand cut and TPG's put it on their holder. You would think they would know by now but they don't. I could name quite a few series that get the incorrect "hand cut" moniker....

$18.00 shipping cost! LOL

Strikes me as odd that collectors who will scream from the mountain top that they have nothing to do with graded cards . . spend so much time talking about . . . graded cards.

People who say they have nothing to do with eBay . . .post a few times a week . . . about eBay.

Not that odd, as there are very limited options in this hobby. I don't give a sh!t about whether a card I want is graded, but often the graded example is all you can find.

One has the right to point out flaws, whether or not they begrudgingly use that particular resource.

I qualify as a mountain top dweller, and avoid opinion sellers as much as possible, but when you dive as deeply into an item as I have with the m113 and m114 posters you are sometimes stuck with opinion seller interactions. I look at every baseball magazine poster that I see posted anywhere, and am constantly on the lookout for ones I have not seen.

When an m114 has an opinion attached it's instantly a red flag due to their usual sizes. This Williams has no official releases, that I am aware of, that fit in an opinion holder, so it must be Trimmed = Hand Cut to get it's numbered opinion.

For those on the board who collect opinions it strikes me as odd that "hand cut" can evidently get a number, while my understanding of the process of opinions is that "trimmed" can not.

I think generally the concept is that if a card was meant to be hand cut, such as a Bazooka card on a box, it can get a grade, but if a card is hand cut after being factory cut, or from an uncut sheet, it can't.

Break it out and hand cut it down to a higher grade 🙂

That's kind of what I thought, which is obviously a bit of a slippery slope, but anything that the opinion sellers can make a buck on is probably less slippery and closer to level. Evidently baseball magazine posters qualify, which I wouldn't have guessed, except that I actually would have guessed because making them smaller than issued coincidentally makes them fit in a slab so... slope less slippery.

Section103 04-19-2025 04:54 PM

Doug, are you of the mindset that graders cant make slabs any size they want? I'd bet they can, especially if the money is right.

No I am not of that mindset.

I am fully aware that they could sell an opinion on, and slab, anything that they cared to.

But currently, the only way that approximately 97% of known by me m113 and m114 posters can be slabbed, is if they are hand cut / trimmed.

At the moment, all m114 posters I see that have been "opinionated" and listed on ebay are less than their original dimensions.

The answer is always "money". If something is trimmed it should be labeled as such. Unfortunately, we are smarter than the graders many times. There are So many factory issued cards they call hand cut, it's just silly.

That seems about right. This item is about as large as a graded comic book. From my experience, for items that size, it is best to use lots of bubble wrap and a Medium Flat Rate Box.
