"TYPE" photo question
3 Attachment(s)
Hi All:
I am not a photo collector per se. However I do have over 900 different Phillies team issued 8 x10 B&W glossy photos from 1950-1969 when they were wearing their pinstripe uniforms. Player names were added to the bottom of the photos sometime in 1957 or so I would send my 25 cents per photo into the team in the early 60's to buy my favorite players photos. I also have envelopes sent to other teams with these photos enclosed for the other teams to use in advertising/programs etc. Are these considered Type 1? If not what are they? I need an education! See examples below. Thanks in advance for any guidance you can provide. |
Great question, Fred...
I've seen these repeatedly referred to as Type 1. Can you show a few of the backs? Here's a similar Cincinnati Reds example I recently acquired from RMY Auctions... https://rmyauctions.com/bids/bidplace?itemid=76025 |

the back of these photos are basically blank The first is from 1969 when the players name was printed on the bottom of the front and someone hand wrote 69 in the upper right corner. The majority of these are completely blank. The majority of the earlier photos with no player name printed on the front have the players name handwritten by the same hand. Some have the date stamped as this example. The 97 on the circle is a later sticker most likely from an auction house |
