i'll go first. 1953 satchel paige with wear. the lived aspect is crucial. i just got this piece today. very very happy. its everything about his mythos to me expressed in the portrait distilled in this beautiful painting. and as it was transferred to the industrial printing process of the card, it acquired another level and layer of power which isnt immediately apparent in the painting. to me this is the best card of all time, and my personal absolute favorite. so much of what satchel brought to the game in image-card form.

this is awesome. the t3 turkey red boxing cards give the baseball ones a serious run for their money too. just beautiful designs all around. the green on this one is striking. cheers!

The only card my Dad and I bought together. He wasn't one to drive to a card store, too busy trying to makes ends meet. On the one occasion we did he bought this card for me. Purchase price was $225 and I know he wasn't in a position to afford silly luxuries like baseball cards at the time.

It meant/means the world to me and I would never sell it.

To me, it's 1933 Goudey Lou Gehrig. A lot of gorgeous cards, but right now this is it for me.

love the '34 too of course, but legendary card here. i hear ya! great choice.

!954 Bowman Ted Williams. A beautiful card and I think his best by far. I'm still on the lookout for one for my collection.

My all-time favorite card is the 1998 Donruss Crusade Red Larkin.

But if we are trying to focus on vintage, it's the 1964 Topps Rose or Robinson. I absolutely love the 64 design, even though a lot of people don't like it.

let me throw in the 59 topps frank robinson with you too. the black circle frame is like a fisheye lens almost; the reds logo and print on it make it feel like a cut still from a old school bond movie or something. these are great pics; thanks for sharing these cool cards!! 64 is a great set.

I did slip a Venny in there. ;) I've been on a bit of a Venezuelan kick lately and this Robinson just came in the mail and I haven't shared it yet.

For me it is a pair. I bought these directly from Score back in the day. It is my 2 favorite players Wade Boggs and Roger Clemens on a wrong back pair. I have owned most of the cool cards and many many insanely rare cards but these have been by far my favorite cards since the day I bought them. I can't say I would never sell them but it would take life changing for me money to do it.

the silhouettes at the bottom of the card really elevate this to another level. really idyllic. you have three copies? nice!! thanks for sharing. very very cool card. essential early 20th century stuff. love the cobb from this set too.

i've been meaning to get into the venezuelans + some retirados! maybe someday soon... the ted card is definitely a beast. love the jersey types from this era. bring back the short sleeves + cutoffs! perfect for that dog day summer.

ah woah i need to do some research on these! upside down backs too.. hmmm reminds me of the 1915 cracker jacks! thanks for sharing! didn't know about this. awesome to have some rare pieces from your all time favorites.

Yes, those are my current 3 copies. I love the write-up on back as well…so lengthy. The Cobb is quite striking also, such a neat set.

that's one of the things i love about the cracker jacks + play balls myself. the writeups, although less lengthy on the CJs, are really wonderful. the play ball nicknames too. its great stuff. congrats on the awesome pieces!!

My fav player on a set I collected as a kid. Not a lot of value here, but lots of good vibes.

tons of value here. could swear his sporting news all stars '70 card is worth hundreds... one of the best to ever do it and great shot of him here. makes a ton of sense its your favorite! thanks for sharing this one!

I’m a Yankee fan, but if I was given one choice of a baseball card to describe to someone what a baseball card should look like it would have to be this one

Yes, I know I picked a 1933 Goudey Lou Gehrig above, but that 1953 Bowman color of shortstop Pee Wee Reese flying in the air is right there next to Lou. What a great looking baseball card!

My favorite is the T206 Christy Mathewson shown below, as it was in the first batch of 5 Prewar cards I ever picked up, and the pose and overall look mesmerized me into continuing collecting pre-WW2 cards.

Aesthetically Christy tops my charts as well with his "Creation of a Pitching God" pose seen in multiple 'E' candy card sets.

So I guess at heart I (Ad)am a Matty man since Creation of this hobbyist.

That entire set is beautiful. I picked up a reprint set years ago so I can thumb through them occasionally. :)

I sold mine when I built my house. It makes me think Mordecai might've been barnstorming around here, and maybe on a cow pasture field near my home.

Of course, that isn't likely, but I pretend it is.

One pre war, one post war although there are so many I could choose.

I gotta go with this as well -- it was my first real vintage purchase after I got back into the hobby after 30 years. It's beautiful art that illustrates that no, he wasn't a young man anymore, but here he was at 46 still striking people out. That he returned at 59 and tossed three shutout innings ... just beyond belief.

Always been my favorite card. Shows Kelly at the absolute peak of his popularity and career, just after he was sold to Boston for $10,000, at the time a colossal sum. The image depicted is the result of a photo shoot. Some years ago REA sold an imperial cabinet of a different image of Kelly from the same shoot, which is also depicted.
