I just got a trade offer for my t206 matty white cap sgc 2 piedmont 350 and $500 for a 1933 goudey Gehrig 160 PSA 1.

Thoughts?

I'd hit the bid.

What does the back of the Gehrig look like?

Ah, got it now. I'd keep the Matty, no question.

Taking advice from strangers on Net54 may not be a good idea.

Opinions on authenticity from reputable collectors might work.

Good luck on whatever you decide.;)

I probably wouldn't, but it really just depends on what you like. Your matty looks like a high end 2, the Gehrig looks like a run of the mill 1.

rand1com 04-10-2025 06:49 AM

Probably a fair trade for both sides.

I assume you are paying the $500 + the Matty for the Gehrig.

Gehrig is an average looking 1 and Matty looks like a better looking 2 as previously stated but the Gehrig has a greater value of about double the Matty on VCP so the trade looks decent for you if you like Gehrig better.

lukewarm_pizza 04-10-2025 06:56 AM

That Gehrig last sold for $3210 in July, according to VCP (but VCP average is around $2750 now). The most recent SGC 2 Mathewson white cap sold for $1200 on eBay, but yours looks nicer, so let's call that $1500. If you're only adding $500 on top, that seems maybe too good to be true. Are you doing this through Veriswap or some other avenue that ensures a smooth transaction?

TVBC 04-10-2025 06:57 AM

Yes, this is veriswap

lukewarm_pizza 04-10-2025 07:01 AM

In that case, I personally would accept the deal. I've also been wanting a 1933 Goudey Gehrig for a bit, so I may be a bit biased :)

TVBC 04-10-2025 07:04 AM

Appreciate the feedback!

The Gehrig is actually not that bad of a 1, all things considered. Value-wise, the trade plus $500 seems like a very good deal.

I did the deal, just hard trading a very nice Matty

perezfan 04-10-2025 10:03 AM

Why exactly was the Matty a "2"? Faint crease/wrinkle? Back damage or paper loss?

On the surface, it does appear to be as nice as many/most 4s I've seen.

Exhibitman 04-10-2025 11:27 AM

I'd do it, but I like Gehrig better than Matty, so I am biased.

Vintagedeputy 04-10-2025 11:32 AM

Take the Gehrig all day long! I’d put it in an SGC slab though

I look at Gehrig like he's the Beatles and Matty like he's Sinatra. Most people know both names but everybody can tell you a Beatles song.

If your game is long-term value, I think Gehrig will outpace Matty.

Me too. I like Matheson a lot, but I love Lou Gehrig, and the 1933 Goudey Lou Gehrig is iconic. One of the best cards ever, just my little old humble opinion.
