Prewar/PostWar cards of “Charlie’s”

Hey guys,

Looking for some input here.

When my close friends have baby boys, I like to give them a present of a card of a player who has the same name.

They are having a “Charlie”

Any noteworthy prewar or postwar cards that come to mind that would be a fun gift?

Thanks!

Matt Galvin

How about Charlie Carr, who played for 6 MLB teams starting in 1898, was tried -- and acquitted -- of assault for pummeling a group of hecklers in 1906, and made a comeback at 37 for Indianapolis' Federal League champions in 1914!

Charlie Hollocher, who holds the NL record for fewest strike outs in a 150+ game season (5) which will never be broken.

Charley O'Leary

After his playing career, he coached with the Yankees for 10 years, during which period they won six pennants and two World Series, including the great 1927 Yankees team. And, on September 30, 1934, several weeks shy of his 59th birthday, O'Leary was brought out of retirement by the St. Louis Browns. In a pinch-hitting appearance, he singled and subsequently scored, becoming both the oldest Major League Baseball player to collect a hit and score a run.

Let us not forget that Bender's actual first name is Charles. An appropriate nickname for the tiny tyke would of course be "Chief".

Appreciate the assist everyone.

Great ideas and I had a lot of run doing some research on most of the names I wasn't familiar with.

Ended up picking up a Charlie Gehringer autograph which will be really cool.

What struck me the most about Charlie Gehringer when I read about him, it mentioned his modesty on and off the field.

The Detroit Free Press wrote- "a gentleman, a devoted son and an all-around fine citizen … whose artistry around second base is exceeded only by his modesty on the diamond and off of it.”"

And he was an incredible ball player...!

Love it. That's a great role model for my friend's Charlie to live up to!

Thanks N54 family!

Nice choice. I love how consistent his signature was through the years. This is the one I just picked up recently, also a Perez image.
