A Detroit/Michigan sports fan who grew up in Hawaii
Hi everyone. I'm Marc and I started collecting in 1979 in Hawaii, where I grew up after moving from Michigan a few years earlier, and collected throughout the 1980s, mostly baseball and some football. I was an early fan of sports history, mostly focused on baseball, and also a stats nerd who read my first Bill James Baseball Abstract when I was 12.
I returned to the hobby in 2022 and have since co-started the YouTube channel Vintage Card Voyage with my friend Ken, attended my first National in 2024, and recently started a weekly newsletter called Drawn to Cards where I write about the hobby, including a collector Q&A where I draw the collector's favorite/grail card, allowing me to revisit another interest I had in the 1980s. I'm currently trying to collect graded baseball HOF rookie cards, along with a Topps 1970s baseball run and finishing up a mostly raw Al Kaline run, all of which should ideally occupy me for a while. I'm also looking forward to learning a lot more about the world of vintage cards so that I'll eventually feel like I have something to add in these forums. |
Aloha
Howz it Marc! Maybe your lost twin-ish. I started collecting in 1979 as well...a few packs prior to that...but nothing significant. Grew up in MI and then moved to HI for three years in the late 90's...always focusing on Tigers/Pistons (Isiah). Have a full Topps Tigers set run from 52-2024 (minus 5 SSPs variations) as well as full PSA/DNA sets of the 68 (Topps) and 84 (T/D/F) WSC teams. Good luck and welcome!

Hey there Marc,
Nice intro, will check out your vids. You might be interested in the 1953 Glendale Meats set, which is all Detroit Tigers. It is an interesting set to collect |
