What grade do you think this card will get?
2 Attachment(s)
I got sniped on the Cranston card (4 seconds to go) and was able to get the Persons card. I plan on sending it in to PSA to get graded. What grade do you see it getting? The winner(s) will get forum bragging rights when all it said and done.

Nice Persons. It appears at least to me it’s possibly trimmed on the left side ?

Maybe it’s just the angle but the middle portion does look to go in a bit, I hope not, beautiful card Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Authentic
Grade = Authentic (Altered) or (Evidence of Trimming)
My guess. |
Card looks like it’s blowing in the wind
|
Persons
It appears that the card may not be laying flat causing it to look bowed - to the left in the front photo, and to the right in the back photo. If it doesn’t have any wrinkles (always hard to see in a photo) I would guess 4.

Thank you for the feedback, gents. Looks like a hard lesson learned for me.
|
I guess a 4. I think the card is bowed so the curve makes the edges look off. No real way to judge if it is trimmed from those pictures. Don't let the posts get you down yet. Wait and see. Good chance it's not trimmed.
|
I also believe that it’s trimmed. Good luck.
|
Sadly, it's trimmed, but still a very desirable beautiful card.
|
If it's a scan on a flatbed, it's likely trimmed. If it's a digital shot or a scan with the flatbed open, there's a good chance it's perfectly fine. Looks bowed to me, more then trimmed.
If it's not trimmed, I'll say a (4). |
I just got notice that the card has shipped for authentication. Given the feedback, I am wondering if it is even worth it to send it back in to PSA for grading as that will add to the $260 I already spent on what may be trimmed. And if so, more cost on top of the disappointment.
Edited to add: If the authenticator sees that it is trimmed, I can't see how that would match the listing of NM. |
Trimmed. No doubter.

The only question is whether the authenticator will give you the option to proceed anyway. |
What evidence of trimming is everyone else seeing?

I'll go with 3.

Authentic.
|
My guess is Authentic Altered.
The right edge appears to be of more or less uniform width. The left edge appears noticeably wider near the bottom than it does near the top. That's typically a bad sign. Unaltered cards tend to have an "equal and opposite" quality about them regarding border width. In other words, that left edge would match up with a right edge that exhibited an equal, opposite slope. |
I will go with 3.5.
Like a few others, it seems like the card is not laying flat on the scanner. |
4.5
I don't see the bat ears so it looks like a nice oversize. If the corners were razor sharp, then that might be a sign of trimming, but I don't see it. It looks wavey because it may not be laying flat. Nice pickup, but it's like what Forrest Gump's mother said about a box of chocolates (and grading). |

With the assumption that the pics are from the listing and are not flatbed scanned (and it's not trimmed as many seem to indicate), I gotta go with a 4.5 or 5. Looks pretty nice overall.
|
I'm going to be the realist here. Not trimmed, clearly a 4.5
|
I will say "5".
|
I concur with the “not trimmed” answers. It just isn’t laying flat on the scanner as evident by how the “outline” printing is curving the exact same as the edges.
Should grade a 4 or 5 if there are no small surface wrinkles. |
Is it common the front, and back print is off in this manner? The front left border is narrow, and the back left is wide. The Right front border is wide, the back narrow. Opposite of each other.
I'm gonna say 2.5 |
Im thinkin a solid 5 - Nice card
|
Looking at the top left corner, it appears to have a "dog ear". which is a tell-tale sign of trimming. I hope I'm wrong, and that it grades numerically. I personally never buy raw cards (unless I'm pulling them from packs with my son). I always buy cards already graded by SGC or PSA.
Very likely the eBay authenticator will just easily pass it and send to you (I have no idea how they review cards, seems like just a formality). Sending it to PSA will be the real test. IF PSA gives it a number...20 years ago it would have graded a 6 or 7...today, a 3 or 4. |
Psa 4.5

Gorgeous card
Card is super nice and a 5 all day long. Seems slightly miscut to me a bit but not enough to get mc designation. Again. 5.
|
I got an email notice that the card passed authentication and is now on its way to me. I am trying to decide which grader to send to.
Any thoughts on PSA or SGC? |
4.5
|
Looks trimmed so PSA or SGC Auth
If the graders don’t believe it has been trimmed then the way PSA has been grading lately you are looking at a 3.5 based off photo only with SGC it would be a 4.5 or 5 |

My 2 cents worth - |

IMO, it does get an A from either grading company. Good luck. |
I've handled a ton of T206's. I'd be very surprised if it is trimmed.

Time to give CGC a try. |
Does the card measure correctly?

Probably not trimmed; 3.5 from either either company.

I received the card today and I could see no signs of trimming. And it does present much better in person versus the listing pictures I posted. I just got done packing it up for PSA (express grading) and will drop it off at Fed Ex first thing tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed it comes back at least a 4. I think it has a real good chance for a 5.

Hope you get what you're hoping for. Not sure I would have been able to swallow the $170 bucks or so, in Grading and Shipping charges just to get it back quicker. Good luck. |

PSA received the card last Thursday but, haven’t gotten any update since then.
