eBay Reprint Box

Here is a new low - a box from 1983 that once housed reprints of the 1952 Topps set. The box is original but the cards were not, and yes, sir; it can be yours.

Only $100 (with shipping) for this fine box!!!

That listing seems fine to me. It's easy to tell what's being offered. The seller isn't trying to claim this is something it's not. They took the time to describe it properly.

A bit expensive? Sure. Nowhere near a "new low" as far as eBay listings go.

And only expensive because those case boxes almost never got saved.

I'm not sure you caught my point, which is that this isn't even a nostalgic item. Yes, it's an original box, but the box contained reprints. Who out there could possibly be interested in a box that once contained a reprint set? That's what I don't get - the marketability of this box.

You see how much those reprint sets go for??? Seems to me to be in line with the once housed cards. IMHO

That particular Topps Reprint set is very desirable and valuable and collected by a lot of people. It's licensed and made by Topps. The market for that box is bigger than you think.

The Mantle from that set sells for about $500 in a PSA 8 and $200 in a PSA 7.

I don't think this is a "new low" in terms of the listing itself.. it's totally fine. It's more like... what are we doing with our lives if we're collecting old boxes of reprints sets? Haha. Seems a bridge too far into ridiculousness. But hey, you collect and pay for what you want I guess.

The eBay listing isn't for the set box that you have. It's for the case box that the sets were packaged in.

I confess to be totally dumbfounded by this revelation!

We live in a world where a Cheeto sells for five figures and a banana goes for six million. A hundred bucks for an old factory case seems tame.

Hell, people ask for thousands on common junk wax cards with uncorrected errors. This modern era of collecting is bat s**t crazy.

So, yes. I did miss your point. Sorry about that. I’ve become so desensitized to modern hobby madness, I barely raised an eyebrow at the $100 price tag.

What would really blow your mind is that I've seen people counterfeit the 1983 Reprint Mantle and sneak it past PSA. So we have a fake card of a reprint in a slab. You know a reprint set is popular when people start faking it. ;)

I have a full 52 set but also bought one of the Reprint sets. Sealed sets are generally worth quire a bit more. But the Reprint set lacks 5 players from the original, which are......

The box at issue would not appeal to me but is it over 40 years old.

I added four of the missing players via real 52 Topps cards and Loes from one of the original Archives Sets (Brooklyn Dodgers). It went for a premium when I bought it in the year of issue maybe 5X other commons from the set. I added Ted Williams to my 54 reprint set using later "archive" releases, one of which came from Upper Deck-talk about convoluted!
