White Plains Show

Anyone going this weekend? I’ll be there Saturday probably around open. Plan on dropping off a small sub to sgc. Any significant change since Luckeys took over the promotion? Hopefully see a few of you there !

Danny

I will be there. My biggest gripe is that they don't show what dealers will be set up. Irritating.

hcv123 03-19-2025 04:32 PM

I will be set up

near the stage. 3rd row from the right when you walk in. I'll be wearing my "trademark" Clemente throwback Jersey. I will have lots of great vintage material for sale and trade! Also looking to buy better vintage cards.

I will be there set up close to Howard by the stage.

You gotta tell us, what's the stage for??

I could fly in and perform a magnificent interpretive dance about card collecting (yes, I would need my owning dressing room) for the showgoers...but Net54 people would probably prefer someone conducting a lecture on WAR. :D

Freda Payne of "Band of Gold" fame. What a song that is. . . . .

Show report. I went Friday, much lighter crowd than last time. I found a few raw t206s that I needed, a friendly dealer helped me out.

Big takeaway, prices were wayyy up on vintage across the board. I mean, I saw a few double vcp prices on things. Yikes.

Do they still use the stage for autograph purposes to answer his question

I think the prevailing thought is that with Strongsville right around the corner followed by the National, vintage is going to sell so no need to price anything too conservatively at this point.

This was the 1st time on a long time I wasn’t impressed with the show. I dropped off my sub to sgc which was the sole purpose of my trip. As stated above prices were 420 than normal but on the same token deals were there you had to dig for them. I feel the quality just wasn’t there this time around. I saw a rise In non sport vintage and more tables of Pokemon. I’ll post my pick ups in their respected thread, I did alright.

Did anyone go Saturday or Sunday? If so, did the crowd pick up those days?

Johnny630 03-24-2025 07:06 AM

I did not go to the show but a couple of friends did...they each said several sellers had prices on raw cards that were as much as if already graded.

I saw that as well. Sticker shock to the max!

I am interested to see how Strongsville is this year. In my trading card group, this is the first time in a long time that many normal attendees are not going this year.

Here are some of the insane price that I saw .. $25 for a raw 1978 Rich Gossage.. ($0.50 - $1.00 at most) .. $20 for 1980 Rod Carew.. it is a double print.

I saw that as well on Friday. It was laughable.

I had the same experience at the Rosemont, IL show last weekend. I came ready to spend $ and left just $80 lighter. I don't know if some dealers are trying to make up for bad investments or just prey on suckers, but many prices aren't based in reality. I think these shows are becoming more grading/authentication drop-offs than anything else.

refz 03-24-2025 02:20 PM

There was a dealer right next to the stage in the direct center that had a few bargain boxes $1-5 // $10-15 etc. on the opposite end of his set up. Vintage 1948-70s stuff. I’ve seen him before, real nice person and gave out 👊. I ended up getting a 1958 Unitas for $12 no creasing just OC .

Traffic on Saturday open till 2 was lighter than usual for a WP show. Line to get in was around the corner until doors opened. I did drop off a sub to sgc but Beckett and CGS both seemed hotter than sgc. I dunno what the later afternoon or Sunday did.

Not pertaining to this show in particular, but my guess is that a lot of dealers have inventory they paid up for, then some prices went down and they don't want to take a loss. I have fallen into that category before and it's not really a good one. I usually end up just biting the bullet, take the loss, and move on. You can't win on all of them!
