When Was This Photo Was Taken - Ernie Banks and Lou Brock

I’ve owned this photo for over a year and love it for its uniqueness in that it’s not a mass reproduced photo. I’ve always wondered though, what is the context of the photo? When was it taken?

From my own research I’ve surmised this probably was taken at Wrigley Field sometime in the mid to late 70s. My gut tells me it was either after Brock broke the single season stolen bases record in 1974 or after he broke Ty Cobb’s all time stolen bases record on August 29, 1977.

The Cardinals did play a series at Wrigley Field on September 5th and 6th 1977, so maybe the ceremony happened then?

Barney Sterling was the longtime photographer of the Cubs, so the back of the photo also helps with the context of the photo.

Just a neat photo where two former teammates, who later in life played for rival teams, came together on the field to celebrate a baseball accomplishment.

Would appreciate opinions or advice on the story behind the photo.

At Wrigley either 1977 or 1978, based off Brock STL uniform.

I would agree, more than likely late 1977 after he broke Cobb's record.

The 77 on the back is the year.

Thank you both for your feedback. It’d make sense if was taken in 1977 just because that’s when the record was broken.

If this happened 10 years later, I’m sure we could have watched a clip of it on YouTube. Guess that’s part of the appeal of older pieces like this.

Perhaps 242 is the day of the year ? August 30?

I was at wrigley field for all the home games until July 1,1977 that year. I don’t remember this happening, so August is a good guess.
