I have no idea about this stuff but isn't cleaning a no-no on things that have a patina? I have seen, on Antiques Roadshow, a piece of furniture go down in value dramatically due to cleaning. Maybe that is a lot different than a trophy ball though?

I would definitely check with a silversmith first, and also look into your thought if value was a consideration. I can't see just cleaning something knocking it down, but what do I know?

Leave it as is. It's vintage...;)

To each his own, of course, but when it comes to removing dirt, or in this case tarnish, I'm all for it, if it seriously enhances the appearance without compromising the integrity of the piece. That ball would look so nice polished up, I think, but I can certainly understand the opposite point of view.

I’d clean it . Not much patina on it . Just use a non abrasive cleaner.

The “rules” as I know them from Antiques Roadshow are so bizarre…

Furniture, copper, bronze…don’t clean.

Silver…no problem.

Leave as is

Dont let the perfect become the enemy of the good. Or you might be left wishing you hadnt messed with it to start with. Im sure you can have more than a few testimonials from fellow collectors on this.......

Is that ball actually silver? It doesn't look quite like silver to me.
