Best way to remove t206 from cardboard
 

Hello everyone, I’m looking for some advice. These 5 cards are glued to this thick piece of cardboard and I’m looking for assistance in removing them with as little damage as possible. I know soaking is a thing but I have never attempted that before. Do I just leave them water and the cards separate naturally? Is there a certain amount of time they can be submerged for? Well, whatever you do, I think maybe cutting the cardboard of one off the end and doing your soaking or whatever is only risking one card ( Id try the one with a chunk missing first)...... then if its a Wile E Coyote moment where it blows up in your face, youve only wrecked one card..... good luck!!!!

Trim it down to one card, then toss it into a bowl of lukewarm water. Use a weight to hold it down. Let it soak for half an hour or so and then check it. It should just lift right off if the glue is water soluble. If it won't budge at all and seems like the water didn't help in any way, then the glue is not water soluble and you won't be able to remove the card without damage. Once it's out, stick it between a folded paper towel and put a book on top of it. Let it soak up the water and then change out the paper towel after an hour. Then change out the paper towel again after about 4 hours. Then change it again before you go to bed. Then change it again the next morning. Then change it one last time in the afternoon and let it sit again overnight. It should be dry the next day. Put it in a top loader or semi-ridgid and let it rest flat.

This is how you do it.

My limited experience hasn't worked out. I have only soaked post-war cards, and all the tape/glue has not been water soluble. Still, it most definitely did not hurt to try.

Facts I also made that mistake once.

So turns out these cards have glue that isn’t water soluble. Is it a lost cause or is there anything else I can do?

Well, in my case 1956 and 1957 Topps were removed from a scrapbook by pulling the thick masking tape loose from the scrapbook cardboard. The cards were given to me like that. I tried the soak procedure, and the tape did loosen and separate from the cards, but the card surface under the tape came off the cards as well, effectively ruining the cards. But I guess they look better without the thick brown tape.
