Auction House Question

Is it ok for an auction to just extend for an additional week because they did not get enough bids? Iconic did this in their November auction with no disclosure anywhere. They went in and changed all their pages with a new end date. It seemed really shady to be honest.

Curious what others think on this.

No

If you aren’t getting enough bids for weeks 1-3, not sure why adding week 4 is the answer. Sounds like your items aren’t in demand.

Which ah?

Their rules, sadly.

That sounds kind of sketchy to me.

Maybe??

The only times I’ve seen that happen is if there was a legitimate computer or website issue that inhibited bidding…. but they should announce that clearly with an explanation and not have it done in secret. Sounds pretty fishy to me….. maybe a place not to be trusted.

Maybe their cards were not so "Iconic"

Maybe they didn’t realize that all of the action happens in extended bidding?

Wasn't there a few AHs doing this a year or 2 ago on multiple auctions in a row? I remember many on here complaining about it but it never stopped anyone from continuing to bid with them. Basically it is what it is and if you don't like it quit bidding in their auctions, well until they have a card you need then they can do anything they want and people will line up to bid.

The instances of this happening before we're due to technical problems with the auction site that prevented many if not all bidders from accessing the site on the closing night of the auction. In this case, the OP is saying it's because there wasn't enough bidding on the items in the auction. There's a big difference between those scenarios.

If I was considering consigning some stuff, I would certainly take note of this.

mrreality68 02-18-2025 09:34 AM

I have never bought or consigned with them just curious

The disclosure part and the reason as the 2 big questions for me.

1. Do we really know if they did not advise but just not well or truly if no notice.
2. IF no notice how do we know if it is truly because of not enough bids (ie did we call and that is what they told us) or if it is technical reason or not.

Then as an aside has anyone reached out and gotten any responses from them one way or another.

Thanks, I originally read that as ironic.

I thought it was very sketchy myself which was why I posted. There was definitely nothing about it being extended. Just a total cover up so people who bid wouldn't notice.

Then all the big items that were going to slip by were bid up to CRAZY levels. The auction was "extended" from 13th (not a week but few days) to 17th. Here's an example of a Crazy Price I was talking to someone about.

That is an iconically ironic response.

Brian (If that isn't ironically iconic enough, I frequently read balloon as buffoon)
