Trivia: 10-20-30-40 clubs

Name the 3 players that have had 10 triples, 20 steals, 30 Home Runs, and 40 doubles in a single season.

Name the only player to have 10 triples, 20 Home Runs, 30 stolen bases, and 40 doubles in a single season.

clydepepper 02-17-2025 05:08 PM

Maybe Curtis Granderson...

...or Bobby Witt, Jr.

jayshum 02-17-2025 05:09 PM

Jimmy Rollins may have done either

BobbyStrawberry 02-17-2025 05:21 PM

A couple guesses:

Alfonso Soriano
Hanley Ramirez

Yes! Bobby Witt Jr. had 11 triples, 31 stolen bases, 32 Homers, and 45 doubles last year.

Surprisingly, Curtis Granderson never had 40 doubles. But he is one of 4 players in the 20 triple, 20 stolen bases, 20 Home Runs and 30 doubles club along with Jimmy Rollins, Willie Mays and Frank Schulte.

Jimmy Rollins is in his own club of 20 triples, 30 Home Runs, 30 doubles, and 40 stolen bases (2007), but is not in a 10-20-30-40 club I was looking for.

Soriano never had 10 triples, but he may be the only member of the 40 steal, 50 double, 30 HR club (2002).
Hanley Ramirez had 11 triples, 51 steals, and 46 doubles, but only 17 Home Runs in 2006. I believe he was 10-20-30-40 if you combine different years.

Well, that is a 10-20-30-40 club for Rollins, but not one of the clubs you were looking for. :)

BobbyStrawberry 02-17-2025 05:38 PM

Trout? Betts?

Peter_Spaeth 02-17-2025 05:49 PM

Bobby Abreu?

Peter_Spaeth 02-17-2025 05:59 PM

Hornsby?

Good point!

Trout never quite got to 10 triples (he had 9 twice).

Betts' high for triples was 8.

The two years Abreu had 10 triples, he only had 20 HRs. But he's a great guess.

Hornsby reached 10 triples an absurd 9x, but his high for steals was 17.

But you are in the right era for on of them.

Klein?

Correct!

Chuck Klein had 15 triples, 20 steals, 38 HRs, and 50 doubles in 1932. So he actually overshot and made a 10-20-30-50--the only player ever to do so. He led the league in stolen bases and Homers that year, making him the 2nd person to do so after Cobb (I don't think anyone has done it since).

The last two players I am looking for were Red Sox.

jayshum 02-17-2025 07:15 PM

Tris Speaker

Great guess, but Speaker’s high for Homers was 17.

Beercan collector 02-17-2025 07:48 PM

Willie Mays

clydepepper 02-17-2025 08:52 PM

Ken Williams? - I know he was the first 30-30 guy

Good guess, but the only year Mays hit 40 doubles, he only had 5 triples.

The last two players did it as Red Sox and were more recent players than most listed so far.

Now that's baseball! Hopefully he can at least keep up his doubles and triples production and add to his stolen base production.

:)

Peter_Spaeth 02-18-2025 10:13 AM

Must be Rice, he had some speed young. Lynn too?

Jacoby Ellsbury? - This one...I did come up without looking it up.

Peter_Spaeth 02-18-2025 10:23 AM

Maybe Nomar early on?

Nope- I've checked...and I DID find one of the two recent Red Sox, but, to be fair to the others who don't 'check', I won't reveal his name.

Yes! Nomar Garciaparra had 11 triples, 22 steals, 30 Home Runs and 44 doubles in 1994.

The last guy I am looking for formed his own 10-20-30-40 club last year.

Peter_Spaeth 02-18-2025 11:44 AM

Red Sox 2024 you would have to be talking about Duran but I don't think he got to 30HR?

Yes, Jarren Duran

As the 1st post states, the kind of 10-20-30-40 I was looking for for Duran was
"Name the only player to have 10 triples, 20 Home Runs, 30 stolen bases, and 40 doubles in a single season."

Sorry if that caused confusion.

jayshum 02-18-2025 12:08 PM

I guess I'm not following current baseball as closely as I used to. I don't remember ever hearing about Jarren Duran last season, and he had a pretty impressive stat line.

Why doesn't Witt also qualify?
11 triples, 32 homers, 31 stolen bases, and 45 doubles

Witt was the first correct answer.

Ohtani would've made the list last year if he hit a few doubles and triples instead of home runs...:D

Peter, you are completely right. Durran did it first, and Witt did it later in the year. My bad.

So Witt did the more impressive 10-30-30-40.

So to recap, the 3 players that accomplished: 10 triples, 20 steals, 30 Home Runs, and 40 doubles in a single season are Chuck Klein, Nomar, and Bobby Witt Jr.
and the 2 players that accomplished: 10 triples, 20 Home Runs, 30 stolen bases, and 40 doubles in a single season are Jarren Duran and Bobby Witt Jr.
Bobby Witt Jr. did with 30 Home Runs AND 30 steals, and Klein did with 50 doubles.

With the new looser rules, we are seeing a lot of new Home Run, Steal combos.

In addition to Durran and Witt we have:
Ohtani was the first 50 HR and steal guy.
Acuna was the first 40 HR and 70 steal guy.
De La Cruz was the first 10 triples, 30 doubles, 20 Home Runs, and 60 steals (10-30-20-60) guy.

About time he got his act together then and upped his game.

:(

Exactly!

It would be interesting to see who else ended up on the list if home runs could be substituted for triples or doubles.
