***Stolen T206*** Please Be On The Lookout

2 Attachment(s)
Hi Everyone,

I sent this PSA 1 Lajoie Polar Bear to PA and it was unfortunately stolen. No USPS "We Care Bag" and tracking indicated it as delivered. Buyer received the bubble mailer and the card board I wrapped the card with. Here's a picture of the Lajoie - pretty distinct with the paperloss on the back. Likely nothing will turn up but always a good idea to get the community involved if possible. Thanks again.

Very distinct. I hope it pops up.

Wow. Seems more and more stolen, mis-delivered, or otherwise lost cards of late. Seems USPS, UPS, FedEx all of them. I guess if it happened to me, I would be just as mad. But what can be done about it? The recent thread about a $40K card mis-delivered, apparently, and I haven't seen anything indicating any kind of closure.

Yeah nothing I can do. I refunded the buyer out of good faith - but am likely SOL. Not sure if CIS would be able to help with this so we'll see.

I'm going to a card show this coming weekend in Chester County, PA. If I see this card, I'll let you know.

Sleepless72 01-30-2025 02:41 PM

I think you should contact the post office and let them know. Start a claim, even if there's no chance of you getting reimbursed. USPS scans the packages every step of the way, so if this one was empty, there's an outside chance that the person who delivered it might recall something. And there's also a chance that USPS actually has the card and has no idea where to deliver it.

The fact that it didn't arrive with a "We Care" bag seems suspicious to me.

Thank you everyone for your input!

Jay Wolt 01-30-2025 03:25 PM

That sucks
Make sure you list the card w/ PSA on the registry
so if anyone adds it to their set, you will be notified

Missing, Probably Stolen items

I bet half the sellers on here have had some missing items--the USPS is stingy to reimburse the total covered insurance. I have been lucky with only $1,500 in missing items, both USPS and FedEx, stuff shows tracking, then just stops, never to show any progress, never to arrive--I found out there is a time limit to make a USPS claim. My private insurance coverage covered around 800.00 when USPS denied my claim, showed delivered but the package was compromised, item missing.

What was the condition of the bubble mailer when it was received b y the buyer? Had it been opened and resealed? Was it ripped or damaged in some way?

horzverti 01-30-2025 05:23 PM

Crap. That sucks Joshua. I’ll keep an eye out. It may change hands a few times before we see it, but it’ll show up eventually.

It was torn on the side. No resealing. Anyone who knows me knows I don't skimp on tape either...

I don't know if it would help, but a picture of the ripped package could make it more likely for an insurance claim to be paid. I hope things work out for you.

fkm_bky 01-31-2025 02:12 PM

That sucks Josh.

Was it from our local USPS office that you sent it? I've had some weird vibes from them when I ship cards w/ insurance. Especially two employees who asked with a bit too much curiosity in their voice. The second time I nearly walked out, but decided to ship some stuff to SGC anyway. Thankfully in each case the cards arrived as expected.

Can/should they be directly asking what you're shipping if you put insurance on it...as long as it's nothing that violates standard laws?

Bill

When I worked at USPS anything that was torn open and empty would get scanned "received without contents" and it was up to the carrier if they would put it in a "we care" body bag. No carriers would deliver an empty bubble mailer without one or the other, if only to leave some kind of a trail and keep themselves from getting blamed.

I also never had a package ripped open after I delivered it. Might disappear from the mailbox but nobody would steal a bubble mailer, empty it, then put it back.

That bites big time, Josh. It is unique looking so maybe it will pop up somewhere and someone will remember. Good luck..

Sadly, I did not see your card at the show over the weekend. I'll keep it in mind at the Philly Show next month.

Is "Register Mail/signature" the best?

I probably wouldn't send a card like this registered. I've found signature to be relatively useless as well.

Thank you Leon and Eric for your words!

How well do you know the buyer?

When I first started in the business, a buyer won a 99 cent Topps coin from me. The buyer claimed that the bubble envelope arrived with a slit on the side and the coin was missing. I didn't think twice and I just refunded the 99 cents plus S/H. I figured someone at the USPS was a thief but it was only 99 cents.

A few years later, I mailed a Topps coin to a buyer and the exact same thing happened. I said to myself, something is fishy here. I looked back on my records and sure enough it was the exact same buyer.

I confronted him and he never responded.

Don't always blame the USPS.

I sure miss selling on eBay.
