No Politics LA Fire Thread

Just saw that the other thread was locked, due to runaway political commentary. Please, let's keep this one apolitical...

I just wanted to communicate to any and all who live in SoCal, and are not yet impacted by fires... Please clear all of the brush that surrounds your homes.

I just watched 2 hours of live arial footage that very clearly showed that houses with cleared brush remained untouched, while the fires got to those houses with shrubbery/brush situated close to the structures. The difference was dramatic.

The wind is supposed to pick up again (significantly) today through Wed. Do what you can to clear the brush that's closest to your house, as it could make all the difference. Thoughts and prayers to all impacted.

Thank you Mark, good advice.

Keeping trees trimmed can also be helpful.

I had tree trimmers scheduled to come last week, but the high winds meant they had to postpone, they're here now.

Having lived in San Diego, and having to evacuate for the Cedar Fire that got very close (2 blocks), I know how awful and scary these fires can be. My heart goes out...

I live in LA, outside of the evacuation zone, but we have several friends who are still evacuated from the Palisades fire. One friend is a baseball collector (mostly 70s - 90s) and I have his collection at my house currently. He was fortunate and had time to make a couple of trips. He threw his cards in storage boxes and made a couple of trips over. Here’s a few of them. Glad he had enough time to pack and so far their house is untouched. I work for a company based in Pasadena and several colleagues lost of everything. NASA JPL said over 150 of their staff lost their homes from the Eaton fire. It’s stunning how entire communities are completely gone.

Also, I’ve read that wood fences that burn can also transmit fire to structures so, if there’s fire nearby, might want to take down portions next to homes.
