1986 Star Best of New Set: Info and Opinions Needed

hey everyone. been a while since i've been on the forums and never really on the basketball side. so i have inherited some cards from an uncle. i haven't gone thru everything yet but i did come across 2 sets of the 1986 Star Best of the New cards which include the Jordan.
Some things i know about the set:
-it is an odd set in terms of its history and how it was distributed
-i am aware it is not in its original packaging
-jordan was not on top when it was distributed
-psa will not grade only becket will it seems
-screw down holders suck and it shouldn't be in there hahaha
-yes i have seen recent ebay comps
with that said the cards at a quick glance look to be in very very good condition (no i would not expect a 10). what other info does anyone have on this set? how would i spot a fake? i don't believe it to be a fake as all the other cards i have seen in this collection are from mid 80s to early 90s. would you basketball heads advise selling raw as a set? should i break it up and sell raw individually? do i send them off to get graded?
i have only ever sent a card out one time (1979 o-pee-chee wayne gretzky went for an 8 got a 7) so never dealt with beckett.
It wont let me upload the pic at the moment. ill work on that
thanks all for your help
Jesse

To maximize value, I would break up, get graded, and sell. There's only 4 in the set, right? Star is known to have printed more copies of their 80's basketball cards years later. So a reprint instead of original would be my biggest concern. And that's why graders don't want to grade them, it's just too hard to tell.

sorry for the delay. yes there are 4 in the set. i was pointed in the direction of Steve Taft. apparently he knows everything there is to know about the Star cards. his response was lacking to me but he did say if there is blue ink bleed on the backs then they are original. thats basically all the info i got from him. i did my own bit of research as well. and then i got this info from someone on the Blowout forums.
"Best of the new and old were printed 880 sets of each given to master dealers as a bonus for x amount of reg issue sets bought. there were also a bunch of best of the new sets printed but not given out, ended up being sold in 90 in an action.the original 880 sets had Ewing on top,the auction sets had Jordan on top.

You have an auction set,i do not know the production of the auction sets but based on availability id say a few 1000. some used to say the "jordan on top" sets were not lic, i believe it was proven all the best of the new sets were printed at the same time."

im going to end up submitting them for grading.
