Predictions/Hopes for 2025

There’s no crystal ball, however fun to speculate and set goals…to this end, what are your predictions or hopes for our hobby (or your collecting journey) in the new year?

Will we see a T206 Wagner come to public auction? What about one of the 3 PSA 10 52 Topps Mantles? Will vintage card prices rise or fall, and will total spend be more or less than 2024? Which will be the hot set like Cracker Jack of 2024? Are you buying-what? Or selling-why? Attending any new shows, or stepping back and focusing on other endeavors?

For me, I’ve narrowed my personal collecting focus to upgrading which is a great driver for clear decision-making, and might attend one new show (PHL?).

Prediction

I think we see a continued softening on most thing besides uber high end. I keep seeing the average person complaining about the general economy which makes me believe they have less to spend on leisure.

Hope: 2025 will see a sharp decline in the number of scandals, thefts, altered cards, and general shadiness within the hobby.

Prediction: 2025 will see an uptick in the number of scandals, etc.

Hope: In 2025, I'll finally complete my 1956 Topps Baseball set.

Prediction: In 2025, something else will catch my eye and I'll get sidetracked again.

Hope: In 2025, card shows will be filled with friendly, polite collectors who show respect for their fellow hobbyists.

Prediction: At every card show I attend in 2025, I'll encounter lots of people with plenty of ego and very little in the way of manners.

Hope: The hobby will be just fine in 2025.

I think we will see some large lifetime collections hitting the market throughout 2025 but am unsure of the ripple effects. I hope for a momentary drop in prices as the flood gates open so I can buy and wait for myself to age out and sell.

Cost of living increases
But wages stay low

Buyers group makes a comeback

Revolt as psa prices increase
Beckett shuts down

Major card or collection gets stolen or destroyed

People who break cards out of slabs and/or have given up meat will remind of you of that repeatedly in 2025.

Most vintage HOFer rookies bottomed-out in 2023 and remained flat last year. I don't expect them to suddenly start dropping some more this year. They will either continue to remain flat or slowly start going up.

I laughed out loud when I read that. :D

Makes sense.

If I'm going to handle my cards while eating a burger, the cards should be slabbed. If they're raw, I want to keep the grease off them.

Hoping the Pirates get a new owner.

Also, hoping for a new MLB commissioner. The putting of a man on second every half inning after the ninth is beyond idiotic. Also, the new pinch hitter idea is equally moronic

Funny, when I was a vegetarian it was always the non-vegetarians that wanted to talk about it. Live and let live (for humans, anyway)

I'd call this a certainty rather than a prediction.

Hope: World Peace??
Prediction: Nahhhh!

Hope: I find a T206 Honus Wagner in the wild
Prediction: I find a bunch of Billy Wagners.

Hope: I can attend the National
Prediction: I will attend the National

I agree Brian, only I'm hoping for the same thing for the Indians/Guardians. This commissioner is ruining our beloved game. And I hope he gives Trevor Bauer another chance.

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if PSA axes SGC. The only reason it makes sense that they haven’t already is the monopoly argument, but corporate America and deregulation seem to be having a day.
