Prewar detectives need help with postcard
2 Attachment(s)
Does anyone have any information on this real photo postcard of Mickey Cochrane. I have had no luck finding anything on this postcard or finding a postcard similar to it. Best I got is this is a late 1920s early 1930s postcard.

Looks to me like he's in a 1930 or 1931 uniform, but others here will know better. Doesn't look like any Exhibits that I have seen, but I may be all wet on that too. It's a great looking postcard. I love those Athletics years. Often overlooked, they were to me the equal of the Yankees' 1920s Murderers Row.

That AZO postcard with the 4 squares at the corners of the stamp box was issued between 1924 and 1949. Cochrane was an Athletic from 1925-1933 so I'd say you have a (possibly) one-off Real Photo Postcard, probably taken by a visitor to the dugout, between 1925-1933.

It wasn't unusual for people to print their own postcards. Could be a one off shot someone liked and had printed for themselves.

Eric,
According to Dressed to the Nines, the HOF uniform database, it appears as though it's a 1929/1930 away uniform: http://exhibits.baseballhalloffame.o...rement=9&pos=1 And it was not unusual to convert a photo into a postcard so the person who took the photo probably had a few copies made to give away. Nice pickup! Hope this helps! Happy New Year, Mike |
You guys are great. Appreciate all the responses.
