Heritage Shipping
I am certain this subject has been hashed over many times before but I just had to vent.
I won a couple of nice items in their last auction which ended 12/5. Normally, as is the practice, I was expecting a notice over the last few days that shipping had been done, date expected, etc. But nada, so I called them and spoke to some dim bulb who said notice to ship should go out 14 days after auction close. But ever so helpful, he said I must be getting close to notification. Is this a new procedure or do they have too much business to handle. 15 days and no notice let alone my cards. Humbug. |
Shipping
Should have the tracking number next to your "paid" section in orders? I didn't receive a notification but I looked daily and it popped up a few days ago.
My package came yesterday from the 12/5 auction FWIW. |
I just assumed they weren’t shipping so close to Christmas.
|
And mine came today. Only 2 weeks, which should make Peter jealous.
|
The news that it takes 15 to 20-plus days to receive purchases from some auction houses will be breaking news to some.

I’m in the same boat as you John. I called them yesterday and they told me they have 7-14 biz days to ship and yes they’re behind due to holidays and they expect mine to ship after Christmas! Doh! I’ve been spoiled by their last few auctions, they shipped them out quick but I guess they’re back on Covid ship time!
Hey John, Merry Christmas to you my friend. |
Heritage shipping
My winnings arrived today. I looked and did a fair bit of business with Heritage this year and shipping was fairly priced and quick. My records also show REA is quicker not sure if me being in NJ helps that. But very fast shipping.

Hanukkah
In the spirit of Hanukkah they are going to accept the payments but hold off on shipping...Jerry

I won a card in Heritage's Dec 8th auction (and paid on Dec 9th), and it's still sitting, as of this morning, at "preparing to ship"; and I live in Texas.
Most of the time, they ship my winnings to me before I send payment, since I've been a customer for so long and have always paid on-time. I just figure they're behind a bit due to Christmas and not having a full crew in the shipping dept. Steve |
same here. Invoice shows it was paid for on 12/8, yet status is still at "Preparing to ship". Tis the season.
|
Interesting thread.
Note to self: do not bid on anything around Christmas time any more. |
I didn't win anything in the December auction but my experience with HA on the shipping front has always been great.
|
My payment cleared on Dec. 8, and 23 days later my shipping status is "Order Processing."

I waited until day 23 to send an e-mail requesting a status update, and the boilerplate response I got from Heritage cited "increased pressure on delivery services nationwide." That kind of deflection is annoying, because increased pressure on carriers like FedEx doesn't prevent Heritage from packing up the order, generating a shipping label, and getting it in FedEx's hands. |

The card (1954 Topps Ernie Banks) I won from Heritage on Dec 8th, got to me on Dec 27th.
All considered, that's decent for Christmas shipping. Steve |
I always pay by check. They say on their invoice that checks take 10-14 days to clear. My winning item is in the prepared to ship mode according to my account activity

The greasy wheel ...
I also won an item on Dec. 8 and paid for it on the 9th. Since then it's been crickets. I looked online a couple of times (most recently on Tuesday). The item was still in processing or something like that (I don't remember the exact wording but the implication was that it wasn't even being considered for shipment). So, I finally called yesterday. The person at Heritage said the item was in their shipping department but he couldn't tell me when it would be shipped.
Today, I get an email saying that the item will be shipped today. I wonder if I hadn't called, how long it would have taken them to eventually send it out. |
I won a card in the Dec28 auction- paid next day
Wonder when I receive it??? |

And for better or worse, about the only meaningful way to express your displeasure is to take your business elsewhere. I’m guessing Heritage won’t experience a measurable downturn in business from this 2% bump. |

My experience
Heritage and REA both had an auction end on Sunday January 19th. I won a single graded card in each. Been a regular (albeit small-fish) customer of both houses for over a dozen years. Here is the status of each of my winnings:
REA: Hammer + BP - $330 BP - 20% (no minimum) S&H - $10 Payment method - mailed a check on Tuesday 1/21/25 Status: Card arrived today (1/24/25) Heritage: Hammer + BP - $139 BP - 22% ($29 minimum) S&H - $14.48 Payment method - e-check on Monday 1/20/25 Status: "Preparing to ship" (asof 1/24/25) Both provide solid customer service in my experience, but it's interesting how one provides superior shipping at a lower cost (and lower BP). Things you take into consideration when placing bids, is all. |
In Heritage's defense, one thing most people may not take into consideration, they have dozens of auctions every week in many, many different collectible areas and probably have 5,000 lots a week to ship from all of the various departments.
I agree REA is lightning fast(yes, I have my winnings already as do many), but Heritage is a behemoth that moves at a bit slower pace than the nimble staff at REA. |
