1948-49 Leaf Jackie Robinson printing question
Hi everyone, newer member here and I appreciate the insightful content.
I was recently looking at acquiring a Jackie Robinson Leaf rookie and I’ve noticed some scans online show the printing on the back of the card “bleeding” through to the front of the card. I’m not sure if that’s just the scanner doing that, or how the actual card looks. Please see this link here as an example: https://sports.ha.com/itm/baseball-c...umbnail-071515 Can anyone tell me if this is common since I know this set had issues with printing quality, etc. thanks! |
This is called a "wet sheet transfer" and is common in many sets. It occurred when the printer stacked two uncut sheets of cards on top of each other. If the ink on the back of the top sheet was not completely dry, some of that ink would transfer onto the front of the lower sheet. I prefer cards without a wet sheet transfer, but some like the novelty of it. It also occurs on the back of cards where you can see a "ghost image" of the front of the card that was lying below it. These often carry a premium.
