"Missing Card" ++ T206 Hindu Spncer ++ FOUND !!!!!

1 Attachment(s)
I won this card from LOTG in late September. Without going through the boring and frustrating details of the USPS, all I can verify is it is not in my home town of Savannah, and it has not been returned to LOTG.

Attachment 640943

I cannot say it was “stolen,” so I’ll leave it as “missing.”

This stinks big time, as Spencer is not only a Hindu I needed, but the last of the Elite 11s. Even if it has been cracked out, it is quite recognizable with the “Howe” stamp.

I check ebay every day. But if some sees it on another platform, please let me know:

Thanks, Scott

Hey Scott
Sorry to hear about this. Every now and then, we can bump this thread to make more folks aware (until found). It's definitely a unique card so that is a lot better than some crimes, or losses, that involve nice every day cards.

What is the last thing USPS said about it?

asoriano 11-17-2024 10:37 AM

Not to highjack your thread, but I am also facing the same issue with a card I won in the last LOTG auction. It was sent to the wrong address on October 7 due to an error in LOTG's shipping software, as they explained. It still hasn't reached Dublin, OH, and the last update on the USPS site was on November 1. :o

I'll be pulling for you, Scott. Good luck!

Do you have tracking of any kind?

I ask because last month I had a Tomlinson cabinet card of Larry Twitchell (Detroit) start out in Massachusetts, then to a regional NY facility about thlrty miles from my address, then a side trip to Carolina, Puerto Rico. I toughed it out for about ten days without complaint, fearing the worst, then it was returned to the same NY facility and successfully delivered. I don't ask questions anymore, just grateful to get anything from USPS.

Eventually, the card will get to you. I’ve had 3 different instances where USPS lost an item for a while but eventually they all showed up. Just make sure to let LOTG know it’s “in limbo” then wait…

File a missing parcel report with USPS. Give them tracker also. Good chance that will shake them loose…

Leon, and all,

The last "tracking update" was -- Savannah, GA -- Package Redirected.

Don't know what that means, but that hasn't changed in weeks.

When I went to actual PO, they did what I considered a good effort to find it, but did not.

Missing package report was made by both LOTG and myself.

Al and I have been in continual contact.

Hope it shows. Scott

Scott, if they didn't already do this have the postmaster at your post office (if the Savanna post office isn't your post office) call the Savannah postmaster and ask them to look for it.

I had a package that was missing for over a month from the last tracking and our postmaster called the Albany postmaster. It took a couple of days for the Albany postmaster to get back to her and he said that everything in the container that my package was in had been scanned and when he had a chance he would see if he could find it. I kept asking her about every 2-3 days for a week and a half or two weeks until finally the next day after the last call to Albany she told me that he found the package and I had it in the mail the next day.

Our postmaster told me that the majority of packaged in "limbo" like mine usually get found but it just requires someone to take the time to look for it
and I think the the last call finally caught him at the right time or pushed him to look for it.

Positive thought waves going out for that Hindu with HW backstamp to find its way out of the nether lands and on its way to you, Scott.

Our minds process all of the terrible outcomes that are possible, until the package eventually arrives.

Scott's situation is really unfortunate. According to the tracking, the post office made an unsuccessful delivery attempt (it was sent with a signature requirement), and then the package went back to the Savannah Post Office and hasn't moved since. They never made a second attempt, they swear they don't have it, and we have both filed missing package reports. No dice on either end.

In 12 years of business, we've certainly made errors with shipping, but this is the first package we've ever shipped that appears to have actually gotten lost. We're refunding Scott's purchase and if the card ever gets back to us he has first dibs. I'm mostly bummed because Scott has been looking for this front/back combination for a long time and it always feels great when we're able to help someone fill an elusive spot in their collection.

(For those that don't understand why people would consign to an auction house vs. selling on their own, this is a good example - the consignor has already been paid on this card, and doesn't have to bother worrying about it)

In Turner's case, the good news is that his card came back to us yesterday, so that's getting shipped today (which may be news to Turner, but at least it's good news).

GREAT News -- Spencer has been returned to LOTG !!!!

That means it was just sitting in the Savannah PO for a month now. So much for the "through search" they promised they did ............... :(. But, then again, I'm not surprised. If there was an annual contest for the "worst PO in the nation," Sav. would win every year .............

All's well that ends well.

A very, a very, Fuf, Fun, Scott

Glad to see it will be finding it's way home. Hate to see things like this happen to collectors, and honest dealers like Al.

Really don't like to see the Howe-stamped cards disappearing. There are sure to be other cards, but maybe not another Howe-stamped Hindu ....

Kevin 11-22-2024 02:57 PM

Glad you got your man, Scott!

FrankWakefield 11-22-2024 03:00 PM

So next week, when you're sitting at a table smelling turkey, you will silently give thanks for a found baseball card. May we all find a few of our misplaced cards. Somewhere, I think I have a stack of about 50 Tip Top Bread cards.

Congrats. I am interested in buying this card if you are selling. It fits my off-back Red Sox set goals to a tee.

Good to see

A happy ending!

How many more Hindus to go?

Absolutely right. Don't just hope, file the report. It makes a difference. We had the biggest single card in our last auction, sent registered, get bogged down for a while. Filed the report and it magically started moving again.

Registered Mail makes a big difference. From what I understand, the package has a chain of custody tied to a particular employee every step along the way. So, if the package goes missing, USPS can identify exactly who is responsible. Things are much different than they would be for some random box flowing through the system.
