Post your companion pieces that in one way are related to or complement another piece in your collection.
Ive had this baseball bank for a few years and recently added the trade card as a companion piece to display together.

Show some of yours :)

I don’t think I’m familiar with a lot of those premiums….specifically, the pennants.

Here's a copy of the ad for the 1962 Canadian Post Cereal Baseball cards that was included in the comic sections of Saturday newspapers in the spring of 1962:

I've got the ad framed and hanging on the wall of my collectibles den since those cards are among my favourites of all time.

I picked up this framed Mello Mint ad from LOTG recently to go with my E105s:

As my avatar indicates I collect all things related to the 1971 Pirates. Here are a few items I like to pair. For a number of years I’ve been trying to complete a complete 1971 Pirates season home and away ticket run. I’ve been stuck at 64% for longer than I care to mention. My father bought me this real 1971 World Series Staff ring it belonged to the ticket sales manager. They look great together. Next, bats used by the three HOF members from that team paired with tickets to Clemente’s 3000th hit, Mazeroski’s Game 7 walk off, and Stargell’s 475th HR which was his last and remains the franchise record. Next up Steve Blass’ 1971 post season awards with a Type 1 photo of him posing with them in his home. Last, but not least, the iconic (at least I think so) front page of the 10/10/71 Edition of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette and the actual flog used on the printing presses that day.

1976 per the article at the url below:

https://sabrbaseballcards.blog/categ...ood/misc-food/

Also - https://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?p=2467714

And: http://www.mearsonlineauctions.com/lot-90106.aspx

Given that the Reds won the WS in 1975 and 1976 (the Champs), I surmise the Reds were the only team selected for the Icee promotion.

Now that's what I would call a regal display! Beautiful Jersey and presentation, Chris!

It's an understated style, but there are few things in the hobby that are classier than a Cincinnati Flannel. Just awesome... thanks for posting it!

I had some fun today as I finally got around to using 2 pickups from this years National in Cleveland to create some fun photo displays.

The first is a 1938 Johnny Vander Meer 1st no-hitter display that I used an early vintage Redland Field/ Crosley Field seat from the National and other pieces from my Vandy collection. Vandy endorsed Goldsmith glove, 1938 photo of him pitching, hand painted Vandy signed ball and a NY June 1938 standup calendar.

In 1941, St. Louis RHP Lon Warneke pitched a no-hitter at Crosley Field.
At the National, I was able to pick up a great Warneke pop up advertising piece that commemorated his no-hitter on 8/30/41. This display is accompanied by a full ticket to his no-hitter, a JC Penny promo piece that accompanied a Lon Warneke ball, a great period action photo of Warneke and a vintage fountain pen index card.

Happy holidays to everyone on net54!

perezfan 12-23-2024 10:28 PM

Awesome displays, Scott! Love them both...

I'm especially intrigued by the stunning Warneke "Pop-Up" Ad Sign. A couple of questions on that...

1. What product or service does it advertise?

2. Is there an easel on the back?

Never seen one of those before.... terrific find and great post!

Hi Mark,
Thank you!
The Warneke pop up sign is constructed on very thick cardboard, but no sign of an easel back.
It's origin and what it advertised is unknown for now.
If anyone on net54 can shed some light on what it was used for, I would love to know myself.

Happy holidays!

This group is one of the most prized within my collection and (i don't often say something like this) I have always felt priviledged to own these pieces.

All relate to each other and came together. I feel it a minor miracle that they were saved for so many years and nothing was discarded along the way.

A solider during World War II had written Mel Ott asking for a souvenir.

His reply is shown along with a letter from Ford Frick (to the same solider), a baseball which was used in a Giants game and hit into the stands, and a typewritten card which was sent to the soldier along with the ball.

Jay Wolt 12-24-2024 01:56 PM

I enjoy saying jokingly yet seriously...I do like a good companion piece; so thanks for starting this thread.

Paul C, I have never seen a glass like that, have you seen others? Chris, Ken Raffensberger would be a millionaire many times over today.

For me I always enjoyed JuJu Drums and when i had the chance to pick up this package they came in, I had to go for it. I think one of two known. (Such an odd, rare issue).

I don't know which is a companion to which, but these all go together. The microphone is supposedly the one used by Day in her pre-game show. The banner supposedly hung in the dugout and is about 4' x 6'.

19th century

Thanks Mark and Gary.
Peter, the beer glass with the circa 1888 NY Giants player is the only one I've ever seen. It would be interesting to know if it's part of a set with different player poses, or if it's just a standalone piece.

Rob, Chris and fellow memorabilia guys...sorry, I forgot I was posting on this side! Didnt mean to drop some rare card stuff and run away.

JuJu Drums were round gum like Colgan’s Chips (very popular round gum that also came with a "card"). However JuJu Drums are very rare. Or at least super scarce. And they're such an odd issue because many of the players on cards had barely played in the majors or, the stars who do appear in the set are images we dont see elsewhere. So its really an oddball issue. Only made for one year 1910.

See pic of front and back below....
