Asking $34,000 OBO. Outstanding eye appeal and centering! Very light crease next to the hat. Not aware of what the alteration is.

" Alteration" ?

...On the scan of the reverse , that whole top edge up by the number ??? You see anything questionable along what should be a " straight " edge ? Just the first thing I noticed. I'm wrong a lot though . Good luck with it. MG54

Could be trimming, who knows I'm no expert. I would expect a trim job on a card like this to be more carefully done, so I assumed it to be just how the card was cut. At the end of the day I bought it for the eye appeal and SGC doesn't specify what alteration they deemed it to be.

Bump with price reduction

When tracking sales of the 52 Topps Mantle, it must be the briefest held card when it comes to ownership. It’s fascinating but it seems no one keeps these things long.

Normally less than a year, and then always attempting to flip.

It’s a grail for so many, and then it gets flipped less than a year.

Either way, that card does have great eye appeal and nice color!

That does have amazing eye appeal! GLWS

For dealers buying a 52 Topps Mantle at auction or privately, they’ll mark them up on their websites/social media, and even more so at shows to turn a healthy profit and cash out to keep the velocity of money moving expediently. For some collectors, there’s an insatiable desire to upgrade to the next grade or to the same grade but with better eye appeal.

I would rather have a new Subaru Crosstrek. But I wouldn't mind having this either. GLWS...

I feel it would be fun to own a holy grail for bragging rights, but I never owned one. The higher grades seems to sit on ebay for years.

It would be fun to own. But then the novelty wears off quickly and people realize they can use that $ towards something else.

The card above was bought on ebay on 1/25/2024 for $28,500.
And before that, it was sold on PWCC Premier on 1/19/2023 for $26,400.

It seems to change hands once a year. Every time I see a 52T Mantle for sale, I like to dig and see the sales history. And they always are being flipped.

The only time mine was flipped is when it was gifted to me from my father.

No plans, in the immediate future, anyways, to flip mine either. I've had it now for 35+ yrs and counting.

I've owned and loved mine for 11 years and counting. My brother's owned his for 15. Can name so many buddies who love theirs, too, for many years now, with zero intention of selling. Many copies of every card change hands; it's a big hobby. Heck, 2 of the 6 Frederick Foto Ruths changed hands within the last year or so.

visualplane 12-30-2024 07:02 PM

Yeah, I was gonna say there's a handful being sold on ebay in a psa 1 vs how many are in the pop count.

vintagerookies51 01-03-2025 08:40 AM

Thanks all for the free bumps. While a year may seem like a flip to many people on this board, a lot can happen in a year and I've decided this card, and a couple others, would be put to better use by funding other things in my life. It has certainly been my grail ever since I bought my first vintage card ~15 years ago. Hopefully I will acquire a more permanent one when the finances allow it someday, but for now I have some less expensive grails that will forever be in my collection.

No one ever immediately pays full asking price, and this card seems to have gone up ever since I started collecting, so it would be stupid to list it at what I bought it for :)

Nice centering.
