NCAAM Basketball Gonzaga vs Baylor

I've lived in Spokane for nearly 30 years, and rooted for Gonzaga for nearly 25 years. Tonight will be my first ever GU basketball game in person. On Saturday, my employer sent an email stating that the arena was trying to sell out of tickets, and nose bleed tickets were being specially discounted to certain area employers. I was able to get $250 nose bleed tickets for $65 after fees and taxes. I'm very excited!

Go Gonzaga!

PS: this has been a very good week. I was able to see my Alma mater (College of Idaho) play the Gonzaga women's basketball team in their home stadium "the Kennel." First time I'd ever been there, too! They lost 39-78, in the preseason exhibition. Photo from the girls game on Friday night.

I take it the night was all you had hoped. :D Hit the century mark and romp by nearly 40 over a top 10 team. Looks like you picked the right game to see. Congrats.

The night was definitely more than my wildest dreams! I took my 11yo son, and my circa 70yo cousin. My cousin had also never been to a game, either, and we've been talking for years that this is a bucket list item before we/he die. He's a rock n' roll guy, pays money for all the big concerts, had an amazing memorabilia collection from the 70s that he since auctioned off. But he wouldn't pay top dollar for Zags tickets. When I told him about the deal I had for tickets, he said it's now or never! We sat above the student section, I bet there were almost 2000 GU students, and it was infectious! We were rocking with them all night. My son said, before we even left our seats at the end of the game, "I think I want to go to Gonzaga!" $$$$ hahahahaha I don't think they could ever have a better advertisement for kids than what he saw last night!

If you didn't watch the end of the game, there is a Baylor dunk around 3:00 - 2:30 that posterized Mark Few's son, Joe. Student section was chanting, We want Joe! We want Joe! He got caught in a 3-1 transition and decided to play some weak defense. Baylor kid just about broke Joe's neck jumping over him. Joe ended up on the floor with the Baylor kid flexing over him. It shut the student section up! I'm not sure how Joe can show his face today in class. My son was furious, that's a foul! that's a foul! I couldn't convey to him that sometimes you're the thumb, and other times you're the bug. Last night, Joe was the bug.

Pics don't show it -- they are from halftime and after the game -- but the arena was probably 95-97% full. I think I saw it sold out once before when the Seattle Kraken came to town for their 1st season exhibition game. I got lucky that night and was gifted tickets from someone who knew my son was a hockey fan.

Baylor Gonzaga

Tim,

Congrats to the Zags… obviously the better team… Seems like you got some payback from the NCAA Championship loss!

As a Baylor grad and college hoops fan, I stayed up to watch the 10:30 pm start…absolutely brutal.

Tipping my cap to the Zags and hopefully my Bears can figure out to utilize their young squad better… especially defensively.

Best of luck to Gonzaga this season!

Watching that game live, I never thought Baylor was a bad team. Sometimes, you have a bad night. Sometimes, the other team shoots the lights out. And in that game, Gonzaga was shooting into a hula hoop. I really think Baylor will turn it around. It was an off night, and maybe it'll be an off month, but that's what is nice about college basketball. It's a long season.
