T207 blank back - confirmation thread

Its time for another T207 back confirmation thread. The Napoleon one is still active but there's not much that has been reported there over the last 5 years and we're still at 10 unconfirmed.

Clean Sweep recently auctioned 4 blank-back T207s - ones that hadn't been seen in a while (at least as far as I'm aware), so in keeping with that previous Napoleon lets do a Net54 survey on how many T207 blank backs are out there.

A number of the T207 collectors (you know who you are) have picked them up in the past, and noodled about how many there might be, a list I cobbled together - from those email threads - of known poses in T207 that can be found with a blank back is a reasonable starting point for confirmation.

Post an image of any T207 blank back - on the list below or not - can be yours or one you find online. Source info (VCP, eBay, website URL, auction XYZ...) would be helpful if its not yours. Images will help with population counts of the cards, e.g. I believe there are at least 3 Ferry blank backs

Curious to see how many can be accounted for now. If you've got one, post an image on this thread!

The most up-to-date list I have has a total of 48 poses: 45 Recruit-class and 3 Broadleaf-class ... there are bound to be more!

Confirmation Notes (as of 2024-10-26):
  1. Confirmed count is now 51: 48 Recruits, 3 Broadleaf class
  2. Some cards have received numerical grades (Livingston, McKechnie, Bresnahan)
  3. Cards with multiples confirmed:
    • Doyle - 2
    • Ferry - 3
    • McKechnie - 2
    • O'Toole - 2

And here is a Becker

Wow that Becker, at a glance, doesn't look hand cut.

Thanks again, Greg

I agree with Scott - doesn't look handcut to me either - def one of the nicer ones.

Mike,

Always enjoy a NEW T207 thread !!!!!

Here's an observation about the Recruit blank backs. This was pointed out to me by a very good friend, who might like to respond (mentioned so I do not take credit for this):

>>>>>>>> If you look at the Recruit list the GRAND majority are subjects that do NOT come with an Anon.3 back.

Wish I could add more, actually don't have a blank back, but I definitely need to get one ........... ;)

Fun, fun, Scott

Was watching - only the McKechnie got more than 1 bid. I bid on that one, but bowed out early. The other three went for the opening bid at $100 ea, so cheaper than one might have expected, but not far from what they went for when I first became aware of them. That was 2007-2008, and they went for just north of $100.

I got Ferry and O'Toole from Frank Ward's distribution of them. I believe they'd been posted some time before - as many had been sold by the time I found them in 2008. As I was primarily collecting pre-war Pirates at the time, it was all good. I only switched to T207 exclusively around 2010 when I buckled down to complete the set.

Thanks, Scott - there will be another one or two shortly, one following the theme of this one, and one w.r.t. back runs in T207.

Yep - that conversation point is repeated in many of the T207 threads on the board when Anon 3 (Recruits) come up. Specifically, there are 49 subjects known with that back in the Recruit class, so less than 1/3 of the 150 cards. I know of one complete set of those 49 - sold in one lot in 2012 (Heritage). FWIW, I have 47 of the 49.

I was the winner in Clean Sweep's auction for the McKechnie. I bid because the blank back was unusual and it was for a HOF'er.

tycobb 10-25-2024 02:47 PM

I think i have one of Doyle. My memory eludes me as to where and when i acquired him.

That same auction had both the Hooper and second McKechnie, the latter received a numerical grade from BVG...

Hooper - https://www.cleansweepauctions.com/item-817451/
McKechnie - BVG 2 https://www.cleansweepauctions.com/item-817452/

Thank you for the images, Jorge and Jack!!

I don't have record of where the confirmation came from on Mitchell, Jack (and thus part of the reason for this thread ... to nail down these confirmations). That said, I do have that it is Willie, and not Mike (despite what the back might normally say ... :-)
