Crossing SGC 9 to PSA 9
Curious for people who have experience doing it. If you have a new label SGC9 and want to cross it (because it’s worth so much more in PSA 9 thanks to the registry nuts for the particular set I’m into) what are your chances of success? I’m also curious has it gotten any easier since PSA bought SGC? Obviously it’s card specific. I will post the card later on but curious for educated opinions first. Thank you.

New consensus ?
.Since the merger : Is it now okay to attempt a " crossover " keeping it in the old SGC holder and submitting it that way thus allowing them to see it as is ?
Because now it's just merely asking for a " grade review " and oh by the way a newer label ( and into a PSA flip ). ? Either way they make money .And you may be asked to be prepared to okay the payment of a very slight negligible upcharge ?? Interesting situation you've created for yourself. Please keep us posted. Well just me actually , because no one else in here will comment on this . I know this crowd.Mods may as well just lock it now. |
Here they are. Was hoping to get closeups of the corners but my phone loses focus up close. What can I say I'm no Ansel Adams.

How much more is it worth in PSA 9 v. SGC 9?
Part of me wonders whether the juice is really worth the squeeze. Looking at the fuzzy scans, it looks like it might be possible to cross it over. The biggest question is whether you'll have better luck with a classic cross (i.e. sending it in the slab) or whether you're better off cracking it out and submitting it as raw. When you crack it out, you take a lot more risk. At least with a classic cross, if it won't cross at your minimum specified grade, then they send it back to you in the original slab. My first inclination would be to not bother with the aggravation. My second inclination if I really, really decided I was going to do it, then I'd go with a classic cross, rather than a crack and resubmit. Probably just my own aversion to risk that way, because if you crack and resubmit, it might come back as a PSA 7. And with a classic cross, your downside is limited to the cost of the service, which hopefully won't be more than you're willing to risk in the venture. In terms of my own crossover experience, I've really only ever done it once, about 6 years ago with a classic cross in the slab. It started in SGC 6 and came back as PSA 5. And I was fine with that. |

While the card looks plenty mint to me the tiny speck of white at the tips of the bottom corners could throw off the grade(r) Hell of a nice rookie Brett - looks good in the SGC holder |
Worth trying a crossover with a min grade of 9. Card is gorgeous, but looks a touch off-center to me (45/55 left to right)? Card is properly registered, no notable print snow/defects, clean back.
If it was mine, I'd pay the cost to send it in at the SGC 9 value level to see if it would cross. |
Unless it's become a lot easier, and I doubt it, I think centering will prevent it.

The difference according to VCP is PSA 9 at $3229 vs SGC 9 at $980. I wouldn't crack it before submitting it if I were you. The few I've ever crossed over were at lower grade levels, so I when I cracked out a card I wasn't as worried about it maintaining the high grade, like I would be with this card.

Thanks. Yes definitely wouldn’t crack it out. But I will probably give it a shot given how much more this particular issue is worth in a PSA slab. I do think that $980 VCP on SGC 9 is much too low but whatever. Thank you for the tip on the photo closeups. That is quite helpful.

It's unlikely to successfully cross to a PSA 9. There's an issue on the front. The left border becomes wider as it gets closer to the bottom. At least, that's what I'm seeing on my screen when using my cursor for comparison. It's also a bit off left-to-right.
There's also the historical difficulty of sending PSA anyone else's holder and getting them to agree with the grade. |
Just hope you get the same guy that graded this one:
