Just saw email that some great cards are upcoming in REA from a New England collection, including two Morehouse Baking Ruth rookies. Stuff keeps coming to market.

I see zero past sales on VCP, and this is the only example on either the PSA or SGC pop reports. If there are two, where is the other one?

Suggest we change the title to “1916 Morehouse Baking Babe Ruth at REA”

Beautiful cards! The strong bold print really stands out to me on the front and back.

Wonder what grade the second Ruth got as I'm pretty sure both were consigned.

I'm not surprised at what's out there, just at how much money people have to devote to this thing of ours seemingly every week.

As long as quality items get strong prices, it will keep happening, if for no reason other than natural attrition out of the hobby (aka collectors dying or getting old) of many under-the-radar great collections that belong to Boomers who don't do the grading thing (and whose cards are not reflected in the population reports) and who don't post their holdings on chat boards. Their families call the auctioneers when gramps is ready for the home or discorporates, and we get a nice flood of cards.

I attend a lot of non-card-centric collectibles events and one thing that strikes me is how generational the flow of merchandise is. Right now, we are in the middle of the liquidation of the estates of the Greatest Generation and the Korean War era Silent Generation, and the material out there from WWII and immediately after has proliferated over the last few years. I see big caches of photos, postcards and ephemera that was clearly amassed by or generated by servicemen in Europe or Asia. The families see little or no value there, so they blow out the stuff at estate and garage sales, and diligent pickers grab it. Some of those men were the early card collectors so no wonder we are seeing caches of vintage cards emerge.

I might be wrong, but I think there was only 1 Ruth rookie. They included the same card in 2 different angles in the photo.

I just checked the PSA pop report, and Ruth is listed as a 1 and a 3.5.

Thanks. I could swear there was only the 3.5 listed earlier, but I could have just missed it.

Tony - there are 2 Ruth’s with the second one going to be a lesser grade. I’ve seen them both.

I assume since it was a “factory” stamp. Plus, the PSA label clearly says “Cancelled” on it also, so there should not be much confusion.

Any guesses on where the Ruth will end up?

You guys can fight over the two Ruth's...I'll take the 2.5 Shoeless please. ;)

I will take one of the lower condition common player examples that are serving as the background for the big boys.

But I still will probably have no shot at getting one...commons are likely to be lumped into a bigger lot.

So what is the buy in on a ruth rookie these days. Plus Goldin has a 1.5, so that is 3 examples will that impact the market at all.

Last night, Heritage sold a PSA 2.5 Blank Back Ruth rookie for $384,000. Solid price.

I don’t know why that card only got a 2.5; it is beautiful. I bet it will be broken out and resubmitted and would not be shocked if it eventually ends up in a 4. With that in mind, I think the price was low for what the card is, which would be consistent with the lower Ruth prices of late.

Just curious any idea how many of the Ruth, the Jackson,, and the Thorpe are in this ad back?

Jeff, I believe the 2 Ruth’s, Jackson and Thorpe are the only known examples with this cancellation on a Morehouse ad back.

Does this matter. I mean i cant imagine anyone is putting sets together of any add back, so will the back really add a premium?

I am not sure i have even seen 4 ruth rookies available in such a short period of time. Will be interesting to see if the prices soften. Any thoughts to what the next 3 will close at

Agreed. Calling this thread just "Rea" is sloppy. With a proper title, it would get 10x more views and more interesting replies.

I wonder how many crazy cards are gonna' surface over the next ten or so years? What are those boomers hiding from us? :) It will be fun to watch, that's for sure. There is gonna’ be a lot of moolah to be made! Auction houses, dealers, trimmers, etc. will be going to war with each other.

Also, how will the card market look like during this period? It has been "correcting" for the past 3+ years with no end in sight. Some of us might be able to own these amazing cards at good prices.

The only correcting I see on the cards I want to add to my collection seem upward.
