To reholder or not to reholder
For people who have used SGC to re-holder old cases/flips, did it go smoothly? Any issues? I’m considering sending a few in to be re-holdered. Now that PSA has purchased SGC, I’m wondering if the prices will go up from here and/or concern over potential that SGC would not allow reholdering
of older labels at some point in the future. Thanks Adam |
I do it all the time and have never had an issue.

Thanks Jeff!

Same here, smooth and quick process. PSA on the other hand...took four months.

What’s your motivation for reholdering? Just want the newer looking flip?

That just ain't right!!!!! :D:D:D |
Yes, motivation is primarily the newer looking flip. Also, if I were ever to sell any of these cards, I think most people prefer the new flips.

I actually like the old SGC label 90% as much as the new one. I would rather eat that last 10% and not have somebody handle the higher grade cards I own, haha. If I had a scan of a card and it looks like the corner was touched even a minute % from old scan to new reholder scan I just can't handle that.
If you are something like a t206 collector or low grade collector I think there's really zero downside aside from cost. But as a single player collector who is hyper focused on high grade sgc cards I can't do it. |
And Darren,
It’s been a rough 12 years as a Jets fan, especially in western NY. But at least nobody will accuse me of being a fair weather fan! |
I always reholder anything in an old slab. Never once had a problem. The only thing you need to worry about is if the slab is damaged or cracked, then they will treat it as a raw card and will regrade it per today's grading standards as they will not honor the grade in that case. If it's an old slab, that grade WILL go down 99% of the time.

I actually prefer SGCs old labels to the new ones. If could get the new ones swapped out for one of the old green ones, I would do it!

Agreed

I would only reholder boulders. Then if I lofted them up I could theoretically have over the shoulder boulder reholders.
Brian (I'm glad others actually answered the question before me) |

What cards are you thinking about reholdering? I am wary of it. I have gotten lambasted on this board before about my concerns, but my thought it is: Why rock the boat? |
I just submitted a Green Cobb in an old SGC holder to SGC to get reholdered.

I did it once for a T206--went great, super fast, looked nice!
