September REA auction wins / pickups?

I always enjoy these threads and didn't see one up, so I figured I'd start one. If it's not the proper place, please move.

There was no "PC" type stuff in the auction, unless I missed, since I only collect Jewish guys (and some pioneers,) so these are all ultimately for resale, so hopefully I did ok on prices. I always strive for unique.

This is my haul, (plus a cpl cheapies for the PC like the Maddux hot dog card.) What's your haul?

Great pickups. I only was very interested in one lot, which I was able to pickup.

DPassner1 09-23-2024 09:55 AM

Prices seem solid? I like to pass it on generally to those who truly want them. (Makes me really happy to facilitate that.)

Saw there was no higher PSA (or SGC) Sov of the Sleepy Bill.
Only one 10 of the 1947 Sports Exchange. Almost no higher W519s (and Cravath is one of my favorite 1910s players.) And a Hess Donovan sold for 5X as much in 2005 (though that was Hull collection, I don't know the difference in terms of added value.) If I hadn't been there that Donovan was under 80 before I got in at midnight.

Also, the Jennings Eee-yah pose is awesome, one of the great deadball images.

I struck out on pre-war, but did pick up the 1960 Post Al Kaline.

Picked up some RARE Pirates

I grabbed the Coupon Type 1 Owen Wilson
and Black Lennox Leach (only 1 graded SGC example) and Camnitz

none of them the "prettiest" examples, but perfect for what I'm building.

Yoda 09-23-2024 01:05 PM

I managed to pull in a E93 Fred Clarke and a T206 Portrait of Tommy Leach.

I won this T206 common, which I think has an exceptional combination of centering, healthy borders, and overall eye-appeal:

Was happy to pick this up! I’ve wanted one for my Brooklyn collection for some time…

Picked this up, at about 70% of the price I bought my earlier PSA 3 for. Either I got a great deal here, or I have lost money on my earlier purchase; unfortunately, I think it’s the latter :o

calvindog 09-23-2024 01:54 PM

Great deal!

I won some with colors appropriate for the first day of fall. I also picked up a nice Warren Spahn 1955 Topps for 1950s collection not pictured here.

What a great card! I don't think you'll end up with any worries about how you did on either of them.

Congrats… great card which I thought might go higher.

Thanks all. Hank, hopefully you are right

Well bought Ryan, congrats.

In keeping with the Jennings Ee-Yah theme on this thread, and also a nice Brown for my Piedmont portrait run.

Nice Cobby, Ryan. A little dollar cost averaging never hurts. If Snapolit reads your post, however, he is going to conclude the sky has fallen.

I got the T207 Art Phelan and Doc White cycle backs; now down to 29 cards left for completion.

I walked away with these. Overlooked the O'Hara miscut to get in at a reasonable-ish price (and only 7 cards to go to complete my t206 set, minus the big 4). And one more card down to complete my Doolan back run.

Awesome George Close Candy pickup. I was keeping an eye on it along with the yellow.

I snagged a Broad Leaf for my Providence set. Not very pretty or cheap, but I don't see many of these.

Very glad that some of my Hughies are finding good homes.

REA has great auctions.

Won these...plus a few modern cards.

Did you build a Hughies run?

Thanks Eric, unfortunately there are more E94 collectors currently than E94s available so nothing comes cheap.

I had a lot of different Hughies, among other pre-war. Am in the process of liquidating most through REA.

Awesome to see a well curated collection come to auction.
That Pinkerton is a very cool card.

Great pick up and Great Deal

Congrats

LEHR 09-24-2024 07:22 AM

My REA invoice was a whopping $81.18! By far the smallest invoice I've ever received from REA.
I bid on about 75 different items but only walked away with one cheap 70's card this time as nothing was a real must have.

oldjudge 09-24-2024 08:14 AM

A palindromic number--nice!

parkplace33 09-24-2024 08:50 AM

Anyone else think T206s were down in this auction? I saw some deals from my perspective.

Touch'EmAll 09-24-2024 09:14 AM

I had what I thought was serious bid on the T206 Walter Johnson portrait PSA 3. Not to be had - went for 5520. w/BP. Solid price, could be highest ever for card in that grade. Guessing due to high end for the grade qualities?

I couldn't pass up this wildly overrated Collins.

Nice card, even with the mystifying grade.

Appreciate it. Had some big cards in the Premier Summer REA auction, some smaller ones in this one, and some big ones in the upcoming November auction. Been a fun run, but my collecting focus shifted with kids. REA has been fantastic to work with.

T206 Brown

Absolutely stunning white boarded T206 Mordecai Brown! Incredible color, beautiful corners and centered perfectly. Congratulations on this pickup, the eye appeal gets a 9.5 from me.

They've been going up and up and up! I sold Levi a WaJo 4 in 2006 for a grand, and I thought I had done pretty well.
