help on 1962 Cubs ball
3 Attachment(s)
I figure it was a 1962 as that was Tony Balsamo's only year on the club. Includes Banks, Santo, Williams, Brock and Ken Hubbs, which I would assume is pretty rare. Not an official ball, but has a Cubs logo on the sweet spot.
As is often the case, I have been asked to look at an old collection by a friend. The ball cards I have own pat, but this kind of stuff is out of my field of field of expertise. The guy was a boy in Chicago and his aunt dated an umpire who brought him the ball. Any idea of the value? It is much nicer than what I am used to looking at. |

While beautiful, old team-signed balls just don't have a big market. You're probably looking at $150-$300

Pretty clean, unofficial ball, no clubhouse (at least what's visible in the photos), Ken Hubbs plus all the HOFers represented...$300-400.
Hubbs is actually not as rare as you'd think. Tougher than the vast majority from his era, but there's still lots around. He was an extremely willing signer. If you're fine with an autograph on a cut, team ball, or even some high school homework, you'll usually always find something available with a quick search. Now, if you want something cool and unique, or one of his Topps cards, then he becomes much tougher. The Topps cards have long been targets for forgers. Pathetically, I've even seen the memorial card forged! |
Thanks so much!
