Pics could have been taken right after they were told what they would be paid for use of their likeness. It took until 1968 for Marvin Miller to fix that

That's pretty funny! Grouping the cards together can really put it into perspective.
Also quite the contrast to the '53 Bowman color set in which many of the players are smiling or look to be in a good mood. |

I don't know the ratio within the set of who (in someone's opinion) looks grumpy as opposed to smiling but I'd hazard to guess the possible grumpy looking photos are only around 10%? I must have missed this one, Chris Van Cuyk, as I think he has the "most" smiling pic in the set? |
