Holly Grail

Looks like that new Sotheby’s Auction has launched. Should be interesting to watch.

oldjudge 09-11-2024 12:16 PM

What’s in it?

Some old, some new, all $$$$$: https://www.sothebys.com/en/buy/auct...Filter=AllLots

LOL, nothing that interested me. From a pre-war perspective I'll take LOTG, REA, HA, or Brockelman over this any time.

calvindog 09-11-2024 01:03 PM

I like the lots that have the estimated closing prices "upon request." They're so exclusive that they don't dare put the number on the printed page. It's just too special for regular folks. You must make the effort of a phone call, get directed to the correct department and then in hushed tones you're told the 150K estimate for the 1933 SGC 9 Gehrig that takes less than 10 seconds to figure out on VCP.

And I see I need to upload my ID in order to bid in their auctions. Can I send a picture of my D instead?

Republicaninmass 09-11-2024 01:05 PM

Do You need to be preapproved to pay the shipping costs

They have a strict policy of ID-pix only. D-pix will not be accepted.

I've been looking to spend 10k or more on a Jasson Dominguez red refractor.

My ship has come in.

raulus 09-11-2024 01:15 PM

Here I figured all of the Mantle fans would be all in on that Tip Top Bread piece. Get it while it's hot!

The Holy Grail, if it truly exists, has never been found. Baseball cards and associated memorabilia is/are most certainly not the Holy Grail. Maybe here on this earthly plain of existence, but that's it.

I believe this is exactly why the OP identified this auction as the 'Holly Grail' in his title, just so there would be no confusion of biblical proportions.

Holly is a genus of 570 species of flowering plants.

...and it is commonly associated with Christmas, so there are some biblical proportion ramifications going on here.

“Holy moley,” Holly Molly said to her friend, Halle Mally, as she offered her a warm,
but mispronounced "hola" under the holly tree beside the hollyhock
while nibbling on the hellacious hallah baked by her hellish sister, Hayley, of Holyoke, MA,
“at these prices I am wholly unable to fill the holey spaces in my albums!! Holy hell!!!”

Halle Berry will star in the film version, with soundtrack by Buddy Holly.

Well I looked and you're registered but have never bid so I'll hold off on having my feelings hurt :D

I think my favorite item is the 1st Edition Charizard CSG 10 with the MBA sticker. So Mike Baker is saying it's at the top of the grade for a 10???

I think my favorite is that a card of Tim Duncan apparently has an estimate of $200,000-$300,000.

I guess if he gets paid enough he’ll say anything is at the top of the grade.

ullmandds 09-11-2024 06:17 PM

MikeGarcia 09-11-2024 07:46 PM

..In the late 1800's when a mainland Christian missionary named Holly Adams was assigned to save the souls of the natives of Hawaii she was known by the locals as Holy Haole Holly..

I'm sorry.

That's because it has to be at least 500 pixels long.

Big cards bring big money

pro9 09-25-2024 12:18 AM

Are those prices with or without the buyers commission?

Peter_Spaeth 09-25-2024 09:07 AM

I don't have an account to access final prices, is there a list somewhere?

And, of course, Neil Diamond's "Holly Holy" playing in the background.

Yep. It’s pathetic. Not your D pic threat but not showing the price estimates.
