Trivia question - most career leadoff home runs

Kyle Schwarber set the single season record tonight for leadoff home runs. Who are the career top 10 leaders for leadoff home runs?

Carter08 09-10-2024 07:08 PM

Henderson?

Peter_Spaeth 09-10-2024 07:12 PM

Betts has batter first enough that he must be on the list somewhere.

cgjackson222 09-10-2024 07:39 PM

Soriano and Biggio, I think.

Yes, Rickey Henderson is the leader with 81.

Betts is currently 5th with 52.

Alfonso Soriano is 3rd with 54 (and held the single season record of 13 before Schwarber), and Craig Biggio is 4th with 53.

bk400 09-10-2024 08:04 PM

Ichiro

Carter08 09-10-2024 08:05 PM

Did the Yankees bat Judge leadoff at times or am I making that up?

jayshum 09-10-2024 08:10 PM

Ichiro and Judge are not in the top 10.

Peter_Spaeth 09-10-2024 08:18 PM

Wasn't Brady Anderson batting leadoff the year he was on steroids? So maybe him if that gave him enough of a push. Maybe Altuve, he's had some intermittent power. I can't imagine Acuna has enough longevity yet but certainly some major power at the leadoff position.

Brady Anderson is 10th with 44. He hit 12 in 1996 when he hit 50 total home runs.

Altuve and Acuna are not in the top 10.

We still need numbers 2, 6, 7, 8 and 9.

Judge has led off for the Yankees at times, but I'd be surprised if it was enough to make this list.

Bobby Bonds?

Paul Blair?
Dick McAuliffe?

Mark17 09-10-2024 10:22 PM

Curt Flood?
Lou Brock?

Peter_Spaeth 09-10-2024 10:33 PM

If Bobby Bonds is wrong, I don't think it's going to be a guy from the 60s or 70s with less power than he had.

jayshum 09-11-2024 05:41 AM

Bobby Bonds, Paul Blair, Dick McAuliffe, Curt Flood and Lou Brock are not in the top 10.

bk400 09-11-2024 06:30 AM

I know it's not him, but I'm going with Lenny Dykstra.

Because the Mets are going to win the World Series again this year.

Sorry, Lenny isn't in the top 10.

I know the Grandy Man used to hit a lot of lead off bombs. But is Granderson in the top ten?

Yes, Curtis Granderson is 7th with 47.

Cliff Bowman 09-11-2024 08:17 AM

Derek Jeter?

Bartholomew_Bump_Bailey 09-11-2024 08:45 AM

I'm usually too late to reply to any of these but I've still got a shot today :D

A few guesses of the remaining names:

Richie Ashburn
Paul Molitor
Tim "The Rock" Raines
Johnny Damon
Kenny Lofton

Sorry, none of these are in the top 10.

jayshum 09-11-2024 09:26 AM

Spots 2, 6, 8 and 9 are still needed.

All of the remaining players started their careers in 2000 or later.

BobbyStrawberry 09-11-2024 09:40 AM

Ohtani might be on the list just from this year...

Yes, George Springer is second with 60. London is not in the top 10.

Bartholomew_Bump_Bailey 09-11-2024 01:22 PM

Welp, since you gave us the 2000's tip......how's about:

Jimmy Rollins
Ronald Acuna Jr.
Mike Trout
Charlie Blackmon

Jimmy Rollins is 8th with 46. None of the others are in the top 10.

That leaves just numbers 6 and 9.

Peter_Spaeth 09-11-2024 01:33 PM

Hold on. We started with Schwarber for single season but has he been guessed yet for all time?

No, he hasn't been guessed, but he should be because he's 9th with 45. That just leaves number 6. Here are the others in order:

1 Rickey Henderson - 81
2 George Springer - 60
3 Alfonso Soriano - 54
4 Craig Biggio - 53
5 Mookie Betts - 52
6 ???
7 Curtis Granderson - 47
8 Jimmy Rollins - 46
9 Kyle Schwarber - 45
10 Brady Anderson - 44

Peter_Spaeth 09-11-2024 03:17 PM

I remember Pedroia did it in a WS game, so just for fun, I'll guess him.

Perhaps not. But whoever it is, he isn't awesome enough to be in that video!

There will be dozens of folks admitting - many years later - that they were at a White Sox game in 2024.

Too Soon?

Here's a hint for the last answer (6th on the list). He's a second baseman who is retired.
