Single Game Ultimate* Feats:

*- not including what Fernando Tatis, Sr., Chan Ho Park, & Joe Torre did.

Since 1876, there have been...

24 Perfect Games

18 4-Homer Games

and

15 Unassisted Triple Plays

Who was the first to achieve each?

Lee Richmond, Bobby Lowe, ??

&

Who was the most recent to achieve each?

Domingo German, ???, Eric Bruntlett

What single game feat did what Fernando Tatis, Sr., Chan Ho Park, & Joe Torre accomplish:

Torre grounded into 4 doulble-plays in a single game; Tatis hit two grand slams in a single INNING & Chan Ho Park served up both!

I think Eric Bruntlett was the last to have an unassisted triple play. He did it for the Phillies to end a game against the Mets.

I think Domingo German had the last perfect game. It was last year for the Yankees.

No idea who had the first perfect game, but I'll guess Larry Corcoran.

I'll guess Jimmie Foxx had the first 4 Homer game and Mark Whiten had the last one.

Actually, I'm watching the Mets game and they are interviewing Mike Cameron, and they said he once had 4 HRs in a game, so I'll go with him.

Correct...it's been 15 years.

...and yet, his marked three years in a row with one.

Actually, I vaguely recall Cy Young having the first perfect game?

Correct on Domingo German...what a crash he's experienced since.

Nope. Interestingly, the second perfecto happened five days after the first.

I'll guess Jimmie Foxx had the first 4 Homer game and Mark Whiten had the last one.

Foxx never did it and there have been six to do it since Whiten.

It's been done five times since Cameron.

He had the third, in 1904, twenty-four years after the first two.

Lee Richmond threw the first NL perfect game IIRC.

Correct - for bonus points that mean absolutely nothing: Who threw the second one- five days later in 1880?

That one I had to look up. Crazy that they happened so close to each other!

Monty Ward was the second.

Still looking for first and last of the other two feats.

First hint: The most recent player to hit four homers in a game is still active.

I think Bobby Lowe was the first to hit four homers.

I was also at Yankee Stadium in 2000 when Randy Velarde made an unassisted triple play. It would have been my guess if I didn’t see someone had the right answer already.

Correct! Lowe was the first to hit 4-homers in a single game.

HINT: the most recent player to hit 4HRs in a single game, has played in both leagues; is currently playing in the NL; played on a different NL team last year.

Velarde accomplished his UTP on May 29, 2000. Four others have done so since.

HINT: The first to make an UTP, did so in 1909 for Cleveland

clydepepper 08-20-2024 11:47 AM

ANSWERS since nobody seems interested:

J. D. Martinez was the last player to hit 4 homers in a single game on September 4, 2017, just short of three months after a guy named Scooter did it...what are the odds of that, huh?

Neal Ball turned the first unassisted triple play on July 19, 1909. The second UTP was turned in the 1920 World Series by Bill Wambsganss, This was one of six UTPs turned in the 1920s...then there were none for another 41 seasons!

packs 08-20-2024 01:47 PM

Four homers in a game and a perfect game are probably the pinnacle of single game feats and I guess it’s just baseball for you that the feat was accomplished both by some of the best players in the game and some of the more anonymous players at the same time.

clydepepper 08-21-2024 06:34 AM

and...

*- not including what Fernando Tatis, Sr., Chan Ho Park, & Joe Torre did.

Tatis, Sr. hit two grand slams in a single INNING, Park served them up and Torre grounded into four double plays in a single game!

Mark Whiten of the Cardinals had 4 home runs and 12 RBIs on 9-3-93. The 12 RBIs tied him with another Cardinal, Jim Bottemly, who did it on 9-16-24
