1966 Topps Information/Images Needed

Moving right from 1967 to 1966, instead of doing my usual old to new, etc.

Once done with 1966 I am going to take a break to review the whole run, update, make corrections and create and incorporate some new Frankenslits (1969 and 1967 are ones I know are pending).

So for 1966:

1) I have the following wrapper/side panel combos - looking for any others:

Top Stars/Ring
Top Stars/Sunglasses

Rub Off/Instructions
Rub Off/Sunglasses
Rub Off/Ring

2) I have images of both wax boxes, a cello box and all packs - need any and all case information/images, and anything on rack boxes. Could use a nicer plain wax box image.

3) Were there grocery packs? If so, any and all data would be appreciated.

4) Wax wrappers do not have any commodity codes - were they used in 1966? Any information on 1966 commodity codes, if they existed, is needed.

5) What series were the rub-offs in?

Sheets - I HAVE the following - any missing or real images where Frankenslits are indicated, would be great:

Series 1A
Series 1B
Series 2A
Series 2B
Series 3A Frankenslit (AL Batting leaders in upper left)
Series 4A Frankenslit (Fairly)
Series 5A Howie Reed
Series 7A Frankenslit
Series 7B Frankenslit

Thanks!

Does anyone have a clear copy of this sell sheet? Found it on TCDB and if we could read the fine print it could be very informative.

Looks great! The 88 card Series are simple with the two slit configurations, one slit will go A-B-C-D-E-F-G-H-A-B-C-D while the other slit will go E-F-G-H-A-B-C-D-E-F-G-H. I am positive that on the 1966 5th Series the three 4x rows are Reed, Angels Rookie Stars, and Monbouquette, the four 3x rows are Javier, M Jones, Bunning, and Jay. I forget the exact order of the other 5th Series slit but I’m sure Kevin has it written down. As far as the 6th Series sheet layout, that will be a lifetime project and I’m on the wrong side of that span.

From my Memory

There were definitely grocery packs but as I recall I bought 2 in early 1967 (maybe repacks ??). They came with a hole in the top hanging vertically with about 3 groups of about 10 cards. About $2 each or so as I recall …. bought my 2 at the Super Giant grocery store in Silver Spring Maryland…. found one pack with a 66 Koufax showing and another with Mantle and Maris showing. Needless to say they were opened the same day I bought them! Don’t have the headers or wrappers (typical clear cellophane) but still own the cards!

Question: have we all been spelling "rack packs" wrong? Is it actually "rak-paks"?? An internet search leaves me baffled, as it constantly switches "rak-pak" to "rack pack" and offers no actual answers.

F*cking search engines!!!!!!

Well Topps consistently spelled it “rak pak” for years so everything else is no bueno

The item advertised on the sell sheet, bottom right, seems to have to be the grocery packs. The ones on the left and in the middle both seem to be regular wax packs - codes 401 and 431. One case contains 24 boxes, the usual amount, and the other holds 12. I am going to guess that these were just different-sized cases on the same product - I initially wondered whether one might have held packs with rub-offs and the other not, but then these were tied to series so I don't think they'd be advertised as available at the same time.

I don't think I have ever seen the term written on a package or anything until today in this thread. It was just spoken words. Weird.
