Saturday Trivia - 1990’s baseball…

If this one has been asked and answered before, my apologies… but I read something this morning that I wanted to post here for weekend fun.

Which batter lead all of baseball in hits for the decade of the 1990’s?

rats60 08-10-2024 07:02 AM

Mark Grace

philliesfan 08-10-2024 03:43 PM

Wade Boggs?

BobbyStrawberry 08-10-2024 03:47 PM

Tony Gwynn?

This was answered correctly within the hour not sure why it's gone on all day.

Also the answer to the trivia question “Which 90s player’s ex wife is also the ex-wife of the late Hollywood star Ray Liotta?”

Well, that ended quickly! Well done, sir… one one other sub-fact is that Grace is the only decade leader in hits to not be in the HOF (not saying he deserves to be there - but still, interesting to me)

Yep, life got busy so didn't have a chance to reply until the next day...

Technically that includes Pete Rose but he is of course not in the Hall Of Fame for other reasons.

Ah, right… which decade did he lead in hits? Probably the 70’s?

rats60 08-11-2024 06:47 AM

This was a Sporcle quiz
1900s Wagner
10 Cobb
20 Hornsby
30 Waner
40 Boudreau
50 Ashburn
60 Clemente
70 Rose
80 Yount
90 Grace

Yes, Rose in the 70’s. Clemente led the 60’s and Yount led the 80’s.

Nice… some damn good hitters in this group. Thx for sharing

Peter_Spaeth 08-11-2024 08:48 AM

Grace hit .303 and was very durable and consistent, but lack of power held him back from numbers that would have put him into HOF consideration. Similar type numbers as Nick Markakis.

BobbyStrawberry 08-11-2024 09:09 AM

The answer by rats60 was so confident I figured it was correct.

Jeff, do you have a list of who the other top guys were for the decade? I'm curious about it now.

Stat Muse is a great site.

I love that Dante Bichette and his 5.7 Lifetime WAR is #8 on the list. :D

Someday Stephen King should write a book titled "The WAR that Hated Dante Bichette".

1998 LOL. Slashed 22/122/.331. 219 hits, leading league. His WAR for the season .... wait for it... 1.0. Hahahahaha. Cue Edwin Starr.

:D

I never tire of talking about Dante Bichette in the 90’s. 1995 was even crazier. Almost won the Triple Crown, led the league in 5 major offensive categories. WAR equals 1.2

:eek::eek:

I don’t even hate WAR. I’ve definitely grown to see it’s value over the years….but WAR sure does hate Dante Bichette.

I know he didn’t walk much and Colorado was freaking bonkers during that era, but c’mon man. He must’ve been the worst Outfielder in history. If NL just had the DH, I’d have to imagine his lifetime WAR would be much higher.

Peter_Spaeth 08-11-2024 02:35 PM

Bo Bichette is already over 15 haha.

D. Bergin 08-11-2024 04:37 PM

Dante has 19 Black ink and 81 Gray ink.

HOF monitor Batting 82 (likely HOF’er 100).

5.6 Lifetime WAR

Absolutely bonkers! :eek::D

That’s half an injury riddled season for Mike Trout.

D. Bergin 08-11-2024 04:45 PM

Props to Mark Grace though. Never led the league in hits for a season, but did did lead the majors for a decade.

Great timing, solid player.

I had guessed he might be a possibility, but even glancing at his stats quickly, I thought it must be somebody like Paul Molitor or Roberto Alomar.

In the day I swear Trout could go 0 for 4 with 4Ks and add WAR.
