Some of my finds from a local auction in the last two weeks.

This auction is slowly selling off this former pediatrists estate and I am slowly buying it. Not sure how much of it is making it to the auction but I have about 40 pounds of photo copies and slowly there is some good stuff in the mix, almost like it's just the stuff that got overlooked. I kind of like it that way because I'm not paying much for it, I kind of think that people are also sick of getting burned by sports stuff. I will keep updating this post with more finds. Not sports related but I got this nifty tiffany cigar tube from the 20's for $90, that's scrap weight!!!

Yeah way more but I wanted opinions on whether I should be warry of the possibility of fakes or reprints before sending it off for grading. My jaw hit the floor when I pulled it out of the box. I did not even know half of this stuff was in there. So much junk and yet so much treasure. :) There are over 30 cleveland rams original type 1 press photos among allot of other stuff.

Schlesinj 08-01-2024 06:10 AM

Seeing a few photos with stamps on back seems positive for some of the photos. I suspect some are type 1.

Can’t speak about fake Wheaties but if really spent $90 it is worth the gamble if you are reselling.

I would take it off your hands as I have a type 1 of that image.

I spent a total of about $250 including the photo and ball I bought three weeks ago and the tiffany cigar tube. The mantle mays photo I bought three weeks ago from the same consignment did not get good reviews. That's cool that you have the type 1 of the image!

perezfan 08-01-2024 10:51 AM

From what I can see of the small pics, those Index Cards/Cut Signatures are looking very Coach's Corner-ish. Really tough to speak to the other stuff, unless you're able to post some larger images.

Three of the golfers are Miller Barber, Cary Middlecoff and Bobby Locke.

I don’t know autographs but I blew them up for someone who might

bullgill 08-01-2024 03:42 PM

Figured out the HOF browns photo, it is paul warfield.

bullgill 08-01-2024 03:59 PM

Figured out the one card, it is Van Mungo and it is considered a card.

Exhibitman 08-01-2024 04:54 PM

OK, here are a few:

The Indians PC portrait is Lou Boudreau. Signed for many years at shows, so not a tough one, but nice PCs.

The printed Indians batter is Al Rosen and that is from a team issue photo pack.

The boxer is Rocky Marciano and the signature is a secretarial by his wife. I've handled a few of them on other items. The card itself is likely a mail response or publicity item of some sort.

Thanks! I appreciate the info.

I'm doubting them myself but who knows...

The waxy envelops show age as do the autos, I'm on the fence.

philliesfan 08-02-2024 10:19 AM

The waxy envelopes (glassine envelopes) are for stamps. I have hundreds of them aged in my stamp collection so they are quite common.

One thing you could do is list them on eBay with a very high price (to ensure they don't sell). Then request a PSA "Quick Opinion". A much cheaper alternative than submitting them and potentially having them rejected.

I knew I've seen those envelopes somewhere before, stamp collections! The autos do look too have some age to them though and the right kind of pen/ink.

I recognize the Dazzy Vance and Ty Cobb but have no clue who the other two are...

When I learned of that service I was tempted to use it that way. Why don't they just offer a non ebay way to do it... I'm sure many people do it this way and it is the same as just offering the service by sending photos!

Exhibitman 08-02-2024 09:07 PM

If you want to sell or trade the Marciano I'd be interested.

Beckett do offer a similar ‘Quick Opinion’ service whereby you can upload photos for their review purposes. I’ve used this service previously.
