1986 Topps Fielder #386 - Missing Border?

So I ran across this Cecil Fielder that is missing part of its border, while sorting some 1986 Topps recently. This is DEFINITELY a print thing, and not damage (despite the card probably being EX, at best). I do not recall ever noticing one like this and looking on eBay/COMC/etc I cannot find any other similar #386's

I guess the question is, is this missing border a well-known error? A random occurrence? Has anyone seen any others like it (that aren't Fielders?)?

Very appreciative of any additional help or insight!

Thanks Butch!

A couple of follow-up Questions (for you or any others that may know) -- Are they called "missing border" or something else? Do you know if they're seen as "variations" by TPGs? Or just Print Defects?

Missing border, broken border. Both work.

It is not reflected in the variation guidebook. But, that does not mean it is not collectible to a variation chaser. I don’t believe I have seen it listed anywhere. But if you go through the lengthy variation thread here, I am sure you will find some examples. This site is where I came across it.

I cannot say that I have seen one graded and noted. But I can also say I have never looked for one either. Maybe check the PSA registry and see if it is listed there.

As for how it is documented is subject to interpretation. Myself, I just call them variations. Works for me.

Thank you! I've bookmarked that site, tons of neat info!

PSA will only grade them as a variation if the variation is properly checklisted in a site they trust. You'd have to go through their email or customer research portal to see if they would for this one. Usually they do not.

Are there ANY cards with partially missing border lines that are recognized as variations by the TPG’s? I believe PSA recognized the 1973 Topps cards of Buddy Bell, Stan Bahnsen, and Earl Williams for a short period but then stopped.

Does the person running the variation checklist site want any confirmations of any variations not listed? I have one I can confirm that is not on the checklist.
Thanks,
Bob

Bob Lemke listed the 73s Cliff mentions in the the Standard Catalog but then border break sightings sky rocketed and he decided to stop listing them. There are hundreds as Cliff knows
