HOFer's Shown on cards with a team they never played for

Hi Gang:

Here are three cards of HOFer's shown playing for teams they never played for.

Roberts was sold to the Yankees by the Phillies but did not make the team out of Spring Training.

Ford was issued in the 62 Post Canadian as both a member of the Yankees and Dodgers

McCovey along with other Padres were shown as playing for "Washington Nat. League" when it was rumored the Padres were moving to Washington which never came to pass.

Are there others? If so let's see your cards!

Roberts being on a 1962 Topps card as a Yankee messed me up on the Immaculate Grid once. I almost fell it again today but remembered he actually never played for the Yankees.

There is a very scarce Old Judge with Ned Hanlon on Boston. I believe we picture it in the book.

The N300 Mayo card of John Clarkson shows him with St. Louis, who he never played for.

I don't think this will be a long thread so will bring up a related inquiry -- HOFers whose stint on a team was never reflected on a card. Two that come to mind are Spahn's and Snider's late stints with the SF Giants.

Not a HOF’er, but an important card depicting a player who did not play nor want to play for. The 1970 Curt Flood with the Phillies.

For the Grid, just remember that he was an Astro, as was Eddie Mathews. The Astros don't have very many non-obvious HOF choices to fill a square with a low percentage option!

Eddie was also a Tiger, making him a good choice for Detroit selections as well.

Not a HOFer but one of Lou Piniella’s many rookie cards pictures him on the 1969 Pilots. But he was traded before the season began.

Sometimes it works as a decent choice, sometimes not. People remember Eddie with Detroit because it was 1968, so not always a great one if you're going for a low score. But it does work out favorably on occasion.

Want a low percentage Tiger HOFer? Can't seem to go wrong with Sam Thompson.

I want to say Lou ranks second to the unforgettable Bill Davis for most appearances on multi-player Topps RCs. I think Lou has 4 and Davis 5.

I thought only 3 for Lou? The 4 year gap between the first two is impressive though. Davis was consecutive.

The grid today has a Yankee pitcher who won 200 or more games. I almost fell for Roberts again but remembered I missed a grid once because of Roberts’ 1962 card where I needed a player who was once a Yankee and Astro.

I have messed up about 5 grids due to a player I remembered on a card but actually never played for the team, for instance 1969 Russ Nixon and 1969 Jon Warden. Neither played for the team on the card.

Yes, I could be mistaken on the numbers. Off by one.

The more commonly encountered E90-1 identifies Fred Clarke as playing for the Philadelphia Phillies in its caption. The corrected version got it...correct.

Brian (card not mine)

Also, Willie McCovey in late-1976 with the Oakland A's

WRT HoFers who never got a card: Al Simmons played for Washington in 1937-38 and I don't think he ever got a card. Also, George Sisler in 1928 and Lefty Gomez in 1943.

Hoyt Wilhelm is listed with the KC Royals on his 1969 Topps Stamp. I believe he was drafted by KC in the expansion draft but was traded to the Angels before the season began.
