Al Stump forged autographs and fake memorabilia

I am trying to assemble a collection of images of Al Stump forged signatures and of fake memorabilia he created. Most of what Stump did was Ty Cobb related, but he also did forgeries of Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner, Jim Thorpe, Connie Mack. Stump''s antics are now, thankfully, well known to the hobby. Stump also had many flea-market-obtained relics engraved, stamped, or otherwise enhanced with Ty Cobb's name or initials.

I have images of a lot of stuff already, but would like to ask forum members if they would share images if they have any. In particular I am looking for a good image of an Al Stump forged Ty Cobb baseball, and any Al Stump forged Ty Cobb letters. There are many of each that were sold into the hobby in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Thanks in advance.

Ron Cobb

Unfortunately I only saw a letter back in the 1980's. The stamp guy I was going to was branching out to sports stuff, and had a Cobb letter. Green ink, front page basic fan letter reply. Second page was a bunch of racist stuff about baseball in general.

Found out later about Stump, and was happy I never came up with the 700 he wanted. As far as I know it got moved along with all the other sports stuff when he decided to mostly get out of sports stuff. A nice non Cobb photo I'd wanted turned up a few years later and I did get that. So the fake Cobb letter is probably still around.

No one of this board would ever cop to buying a forged piece of memorabilia. We are all waaaay too smart. :)

Haha, we've all been burned, and anyone who claims otherwise is lying. Just part of the learning process. Here's one of mine...

It's an "eBay special", purchased by me a few weeks prior to their Authentication Program being initiated. The card's surface is perfectly smooth with no "grain" (but was impossible to discern from the seller's provided pics).

Luckily it was a quick/easy refund. I tore the card in half to prevent another potential scam...
