Wondering why SGC won’t grade this boxing postcard
 

I just sent a sub into SGC a few days ago and they notified me today that they are refunding my money as they do not grade this boxing postcard. I’ve emailed them to ask why because it seems pretty simple to me that it would be gradable.

Anyone ever run into a situation like this with a postcard?

Can we see a picture of the back even though it might be blank?

I just heard back from them. They said the postcard was not graded due to lack of information to accurately label the card. On the back, it says it’s a postcard and gives you the areas to write stuff, but there is no manufacturer listed so that must be the issue.

I don’t have a photo of the actual one I sent, but the back looks something like this.

No, it's Knights of Columbus, a Catholic Fraternal Organization that created plenty of WWI huts for all U.S. servicemen to get free support from.

My guess is because it is not formally checklisted anywhere. I have had about 6 of the cards from this collection, because I collect Knights of Columbus items. I've been in the org for 20 years.

Edit: since you posted that they cannot locate information on it, it was likely given out at the KC huts for people to write home with. If you contact the KofC Museum in New Haven, CT, they may have more information about this postcard and a full checklist.

Yeah, as boxing postcards go, it's a fairly common postcard. Packey McFarland was a fantastic boxer, but never had much of a following, so you can often pick it up for less then the cost of grading it, when you find one.

Probably put it as c. late 1910's or so.

Another version of that one is shown on page 236 of my most recent book.

I’ve dated it around 1916 to 1918 based on Governor Goodrich’s tenure. It’s a really great postcard
