What are you Looking For at The National?
Net 54:
Every year, everyone wants to know what sellers are bringing to the National. I thought I would turn it around this year and ask the collectors who are coming to the show to tell all of us booth holders what they are looking for. I bring maybe 2-3% of what I own, but it would help us all if you targeted our focus on things that you really are looking for. Yes, I will probably still bring everything I plan on bringing, but I can make room to take other items as well. Let us know, and booth holders will tell you to stop by if they have what you seek. See you all in late July. Steve_NY Booth 800 8 booths in the main entrance P.S. -- Not a good idea, just say so. Regards, Steve |
PSA 6 or ExMt+ non-slabbed Kaline RC. They have been pretty steady at $1100-$1300 for a couple years....last year I saw a 5.5 and a 6 I really liked...both were priced at $2K+...more than comps for 7's
|
I'll be looking for 1955, 1970 and 1971 Topps baseball commons and some stars in VG-EX to EX condition, and 1960 and 1961 Fleer Baseball Greats in Ex+/NM condition.
|
I can't make it this year. But on behalf of n54ers who can and might not see this thread. Bring rare stuff. Things that you have to tell people you don't even know what it's from or what it is. Looking at the same big name cards on every table is boring (to me). Bring photos, bring ephemera items. Stand out.

Beyond that, my top targets are a N162 Brouthers and a Wajo portrait in a 3-4. I'm also looking for some Old Judge HOFers, a nice Charles Comiskey card, Clark Griffith and Ed Walsh T206s, and Scrapps Tobacco Deacon White and Ned Hanlon. I don't plan on buying all of those but that's what's on my radar. Plus, as mentioned above, hopefully I'll see something cool I didn't know existed and add it to the collection. |
I'll be looking for N and T non sport cards...these have become very popular the last couple years with many collectors being priced out of the pre war baseball.

If I ever go - it be nice fine looking women especially those in workout spandex leggings

I'm passing on the National this year, because my aching knees would make walking the floor of the Show unpleasant. My want list is in my signatire line below.

Excellent. This is what will help booth holders target additional things to bring with us. Keep the list growing but NOTE that most of us already are bringing the rarest of the rare -- its not going to sell itself unless we bring it. But keep your wants coming.
Also I just returned from a concert trip that helped me get close to where I picked up 10 more unopened wax packs from my connection -- if they make it to the show, I will have 2 unopened National Chicle packs, two 1940 Playball packs, a 1941 Playball pack with 2 cards, three 1934-6 Diamond Stars packs, two 1952 Topps packs, and so much more to list. I will list all of my 1930s and 1940s packs in advance of the show and will have them all in one showcase. Check them out -- Booth 800 8 booths in yhe main entrance. |

I'm not going to make it this year due to work obligations. I just cancelled my flight/car/hotel a couple weeks ago.
If I were going I'd be looking for pretty much the same stuff as last year: 1. 19th century baseball N172's and cabinets with sharp photos. 2. Pre-1980 unopened packs and boxes. Mostly non-sports and the more rare the better. |

Supplies Supplies Supplies
Apart of cards, I will be looking to replenish some of my hard to find supplies. Specifically looking for BCW sleeves and toploaders for odd sizes like 6x9 and 9x12. I know they make them but no local shops carry them here in Toronto and ordering online is cost prohibitive once shipping is factored in. Not sure if any dealers at the show will have these, so if anyone familiar with Cleveland knows if any of the local shops carry these it would be much appreciated!
