Acuna - Odds are against him:
Has any player come back to even close to his prior production with TWO surgically-repaired knees?
I can't think of any. Lots of pitchers have multiple arm surgeries and I struggle to recall any would came back to the same 'heights'. This includes Spencer Strider, who had TJ in College before his latest injury. All this is very depressing to us Braves' fans. We all should be thankful we got to see the best even for a short time...my mind thinks of Jacob deGrom...alas. . . |
As a die hard Philies fan, I say................. that sucks.
I may dislike the Braves but I hate injuries even more no matter who or what team. |
The pitcher who has had two Tommy John surgeries but has continued to pitch well that springs to mind is Nathan Eovaldi.
But to your point, shoulders and knees are tougher to come back from than say, elbows and hamstrings. Acuna may never have QUITE 70 steal speed when he comes back, but hopefully his knees don't hold him back from hitting. |
With all the advances in training and technology, players seem more brittle than ever. Both of Acuna's tears were in the context of what looked like nothing plays.
