Trivia: Straight to the Majors

Of all the players who skipped the minors entirely and went directly to the majors after being drafted, there is only one who eventually made the Hall of Fame and only one who won the Rookie of the Year Award.

Who are they?

The HOFer is Dave Winfield.

No idea on the ROY

Wow, that was fast on the first part of the question. Dave Winfield is correct. (Al Kaline also never played in the minor leagues -- and he was a Hall of Famer. But he was never drafted, as the first MLB draft was in 1965.)

Will give some more time for guesses on the other player, the one who won the Rookie of the Year Award.

Bingo. Dave Winfield and Bob Horner. Thanks for playing!

Horner was a really good player when he was actually able to stay on the field.

Never really was able to put a full season in, and was pretty much done in MLB by 28. Destroyed Japanese pitching in his one season over there, but wasn't able to quite put in a full season there either

I remember in the early 80's his Rookie card was more popular then Ozzie's for a bit (I wanna say Pedro Guerrero was in that mix to). He'd had 5 pretty productive seasons by the time he was 25, even if he was obviously injury prone already.
