2024 SABR Larry Ritter Book Award Announcement
 

I am pleased to announce that SABR has awarded the 2024 Larry Ritter Book Award to my book, Baseball Photography of the Deadball Era. To my knowledge, this is the first hobby focused book to win a literary award. It is also the first time a self-published title has won the award.

Congrats indeed. A book like this long overdue. Have a number of 18th and 19th books and newspapers with text, drawings, photos, woodcuts etc.. Have been worried that publications like these have outlived their perceived and deserved attention, merit and market. Hope still springs eternal -- but I am old.

I will be in Minneapolis this weekend to receive the Larry Ritter Book Award at the SABR annual convention. My presentation will be during the 4:00 p.m. Saturday Deadball Era Committee meeting. If anyone is attending the SABR convention I'd love to see you there!

Absolutely great book, I'm glad I bought a copy. You more than deserved the Ritter Award this year - not only is it an indispensable research resource but also a pleasure to just look through. Well done!
