1962 Topps Venezuelan question
 

Help! I'm trying to collect the Babe Ruth subset in the 1962 Topps Venezuelan set and I have a question about a card. I know they're usually beat up and usually when I see worn corners the paper underneath is usually more grey or tan instead of bright white. I'm looking at a card now that has a dark area on an edge. Is there anything at all that can cause a dark area besides being recolored? Sorry for the poor picture, seller's picture of the border where it's worn. Thanks in advance for any ideas!

I could be wrong but it looks like paper loss to me and the dark area is the background of what it was scanned on.

Thanks for a perfect answer! I just leave the lid of the scanner up and normally scanning graded cards so that never crossed my mind. Thanks again!

Paper loss probably isn’t the right term, I should have said a small chunk is missing on the edge, it appears some kind of pest gnawed on it.
